  1. Hey there, A friend of mine @notyouobviously takes English A: lang & lit and currently works on his Written Task 1. He was wondering if anyone could help him with his Written Task? He basically does something with speech and looks for an idea (because of I don't take this course, I am not very familiar with these things). Could you please give him some ideas about the speech for his Written Task? Any help/suggestion will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
  2. Hey guys, How do you go about preparing for english lang&lit exams? I just had my exams and got a mark for the paper 1 lang&lit that is well below what I usually get on paper 1 practices. The main problem with my essay was that I seem to not understand the purpose of the text. The purpose that I sometimes write it usually almost right, but not quite. Is there any way to improve my text understanding, especially with the purpose of the text? Thanks Also, as I am applying to uni next semester, which is end of this year, do these y12 final exams play a huge role in y13 predicted grades? My teacher said that it's hard for y12's to get 7's at the end of the year for english lang&lit sl and that students tend to improve during year 13. However, during y13 will be the time where I will be applying to uni. So how would the teacher create a predicted score?
  3. Hello, I will be doing my English FOA soon and it will from part 2 on language and mass communication. I will be focusing on the portrayal of asian stereotypes in the media, specifically the representation of asians in pitch perfect 2 (character Lilly). Are there any tips or suggestions for how to structure the FOA? I am slightly lost in terms of starting it and am not sure how to structure it. Thanks!
  4. Okay so I'm having a summative, Mock IOC of sorts tomorrow. My English Language & Literature HL teacher is the most pedantic, and cruel marker. Most of the class doesn't score above a 3/7 on most assessments (meaning most of us are failing), and the highest I've ever received from him was 5/7, and I think he was just in a good mood. So hoping that maybe I can achieve that most godly of achievements, and score 5 on this IOC I was wondering how I should approach in order to get the best possible score?
  5. I am currently in the process of my EE year, and have decided to go the route of language and literature or category 3 in group 1 of the EE guide. My original research question was, "how does the Kendrick's use of rhetorical devices create his message, and how is this received by the audience in relation to external factors in 2015." Now i realise this is very broad, but I also don't know how to narrow it down. To Pimp A Butterfly (TPAB) is a expansive album, and when I told my mentor I wanted to analyze the album's social effect in 2015, she told me to compare it to twitter feeds and any necessary online threads and determine what portions of the albums stirred with the masses. I don't really want to go down the route of comparing with people's reactions, and I would like to stick the to album itself if possible. Is there any way to narrow my topic down, or are there certain questions I should be asking to help narrow my topic down? Also my mentor has brought up the possibility of comparing two songs one from Kendrick's previous album Good Kid Maad City (GKMC) and one from TPAB, I am also interested in this, is there a way to focus this down? Do i just analyze the lyrics? Do I analyze the effects of the lyrics? I realize I asked a lot in a short passage, but in general I would like to do my EE on group 1 category 3 and would like it to revolve around Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp A Butterfly, and would love any help on focusing down a topic or even how to approach this EE and achieve a topic. Thank you for your time!
  6. Hello, Going to write my written task 1 on Shakespeare's ´The Merchant of Venice`. Anyone who have any ideas of what kind of text I can write or any ideas about the content?
  7. Hello :-). Norwegian student here starting IB next year. I was wondering if taking my native language at B level is something universities would notice. Doing so would basically guarantee me a 7 and also give me a lot more time to work on my other subjects. If this isn't such a good idea, what would be the easiest lang&lit or lit?
