  1. Hi guys, my EE sort of 'proposal' due date where we seriously consult to the EE supervisors and all that are next week's Wednesday, and honestly I'm still so so confused and I need help or just some suggestions or anything, please. Here are the subjects I am taking: Economics HL, Mathematics HL, Physics HL, Chemistry SL, English A SL, MandarinAB. So, since the start, I've always intended on taking Economics EE because from all my other subjects, it seemed impossible for me. (I've been getting rock bottom scores for Math and the school have no more supervisors for Physics). So, I've been researching a lot for like a few months now, but until now I've got nothing. Initially, I wanted to do about impact of K-Pop in Korea's economy, which would certainly interest me, but the Econs EE supervisor said to do something related to your country, and I'm an Indonesian. I've also searched about topics like tourism, transport, food, etc, but it's really hard for me to relate it to the economics concept especially when it's like about a particular brand like for example McD, etc. And lots of people say that it's leaning more towards Business, and I don't take Business. My economics EE supervisor has been chasing me and all that about topics topics and topics for Econs since he knows that I want to take it, but yesterday he talked to me and said that it's really important for everyone to do an EE on a topic that will surely interest us and something that you are passionate about. He kept on also encouraging the whole class to take a Language EE, like Indonesian B and the subject allows you to talk about a wide range of things like analysing songs, brochures, ads and all that, etc. So, I was quite persuaded by that and I really want to do on something about K-Pop. So, I noticed I could write about K-Pop on these language EEs, but the problem is I don't take Indonesian B and I don't take English A HL (I take A SL), so it would surely be a challenge for me. Even though Indonesian is my first language, I don't know if I could write well, but I really feel like I wanna do this you know, or maybe do English A EE. Another problem is, I don't know how I could relate the topic of K-Pop to these language EEs, can anyone maybe share me your thoughts on my issue please? I really need help. Thank you!!...

    help!! EE

okay so it's the first year my school is doing IB and they've lied to my class the whole past year about what IB actually is, i really don't know much about it and what i find on internet is kinda confusing. anyways, i chose to do my EE on Language B High Level but it's been more than three months and my teachers are not helping, we don't have any idea of which topic to do so can someone recommed me titles please? i don't want to do literature but the other to options are fine for me.
  3. Hi all, I just wanted to know how difficult it's going to be for me to study and succeed in IB. I'm currently studying in grade 10 and I'll most probably start studying according to IB's curriculum next year. I'm currently studying the Holt McDougal Modern Chemistry, English Literature/writing, Biology, and Phyiscs. The McGraw Hill Algebra 2 on top of social studies, Farsi literature/writing and Arabic. I find all of the subjects I'm studying relatively easy (except Farsi. Even though it's my mother language), and I aced all of my finals last term. But I'm kinda stressed to be studying IB as I have no idea about the difficulty level. The hl subjects that I'm gonna pick are biology, chemistry, Farsi and English (I have no idea whether it's gonna be A or B; it's mandatory to study Farsi and English hl at my school) I want to study medicine and I looked at dozens of university admission requirements for the said course; most of the universities I'm interested in require a minimum of 6 in bio hl and chem hl on top of an overall score of 38/45. As I said, I just want to know how much energy I'll need to exert on my studies and how difficult it'll be to meet the mentioned requirements. Your insight would be appreciated! Edit: Do I need to study physics as wrll to get into medicine? I'm already picking Math sl so not sure how that'll work.
  4. Hi!! I take as a language A at standard level, my native language, Romanian. (I also take English A HL). One of the external assignments for it is the written assignment. Does anyone know if I'm supposed to upload that on candidates.ibo or does the teacher upload it? On my account, I already uploaded TOK essay and I have to upload WT's in English and EE. But there's nothing where to upload the written assignment.

    EE LANGUAGE B HELP

Context: I’m writing my EE in Japanese. How much literature do we have to study? Does it have to be a comparison? Has anyone out there done a language b EE and can you talk to me?
  6. Helloo!! Could anyone help with an interview template (from trusted sources)? I need it for my WT1..pleaseeee
  7. Hello everyone!! As I know WT1 for English A is supposed to be a creative writing, not an essay. Anyway, I was wondering if I could do an interview essay instead of a simple interview. Does any of you know if that's allowed?
  8. Hi, I am currently in my first year of IB, I moved to France with no experience of the French language. I am currently doing French B and my teacher suggested French Initio, would this be a good option considering I don't know French?
  9. Hello Everyone, So I will keep this short and hopefully, someone can answer my question. I am currently enrolled in the Pamoja French ab initio course and I'll admit I am not doing very well at all and am quite concerned about my progress. Also, the teacher we have is terrible. He is five weeks behind in grading, cancels lessons five minutes after they should have started, and all in all its just been a terrible experience. My question to you is this - Can I switch courses from French to Spanish? We are in week 11 of the program, however, I believe I should be able to catch up in the Spanish class as I had two years of beginner Spanish my Freshman and Sophmore years. If anyone has any answers or insights regarding my question please answer below. Thanks in advance!!!
  10. Hello guys, so I got a 5 (nearly a 6 as suggested by my teacher) in my HL English L&L for my Y1 final exam, but I am super worried cuz I need at least a solid 6 for English, since my other HLs are Economics and Chemistry which I am getting a 6 and a 5 respectively. I need a total HL points of 18, so I am aiming for a 6-7 in English, 6 in Economics and hopefully a 6 in Chemistry too. But for now, can anyone suggest how can I ace my internal assessments cuz I heard that for a 7 in English you need very strong IAs? We did one FOA already, I got a 6, any tips for getting a 7? (I am doing my next one on textual bias) My teacher hasn't really explained anything about the IOC, I have read 2 books and 3 poems for it by now, is there any time-efficient methods to jot notes and analyze these texts, so when I look back in January, I don't have to re-read everything. I am studying Lost Honour of Katharina Blum, Lamarie Project and Duffy Poems by the way. And lastly, does it matter if you submit WT1 or WT2? Thanks so much!!
  11. Hi, so today i picked my IB subjecs. I chose English Language & Literature HL, French SL,Geo SL, Physics HL,Math HL, and Music SL. However i was relatively weary about this choice, since i have never really been great at English or liked it very much; i dont know how i managed to get an A in both language and literature at GCSE. On the other hand, Geography is a subject i love and find fascinating, however only got a B at GCSE (i was predicted an A* throughout the year). So my question is - should i move my English down to SL and Geo up to HL? How much more difficult is HL Lang Lit vs SL, and the same goes for Geography

    Abinitio question

So I was wondering, could you switch to another abinitio language after your junior year?
  13. So my current IB schedule looks like the following for next year. Psychology SL Mandarin SL (Ab initio) History HL Biology HL English HL *I've already taken the Math SL my junior year. The issue here is that after taking 1 year of Mandarin online (Pamoja) I realized that I don't want to do this route. Would it be possible for me to take Spanish Ab initio next year and take the test for it rather than taking the Mandarin test? Thanks! -Paul
  14. Hey guys! First time here on ibsurvival, hope all of you are doing well It's time for me to chose my subjects for IBDP, so I was going through the choices and I stumbled upon English A: Language and English A: Language and Literature. I was just wondering the difference between the two of them, the advantages and disadvantages, and the features of HL and SL in both Language, and Language + Literature respectively! Thank you in advance! ali.asif

    Language A HL

Hi, I'm already in IB1 and it's already been a year since I started this course but I really don't think I could cope with math HL so I wanted to change Japanese A SL to HL and drop maths down to SL. But it seemed like you can't take HL in your self taught language. Does anyone know why that is? Thanks!

    Self Taught Literature

Hi guys, I am slightly worried about Norwegian Self Taught literature. I am decent enough at Norwegian, however I do not know whether or not I should hire a tutor to get practice in literature. I am worried that this grade will go very bad, as it is now because I have no experience with the marking of these papers. The only thing I do know however is that the tachers are supposed to be more lenient when it comes to the marking and grading. Anyone here who has had exams in a self-taught course? Which grade did you get?
  17. Hi pips!! I just wanna make sure... So, I have researched about Written Task 2 and according to my research, WT2 ONLY has to have the following: 1. Outline : includes the question, the section of the course, the text (e.g. novel, play) and the aim. 2. The essay However, my teacher told me that I should add an abstract of 200 words. Can someone please tell me if there is a need for an abstract?? Your answers will be greatly appreciated.
  18. Right now I still have 4 high level’s, as I only need 3, I need/want to drop one HL subject. My two options are economics HL, or English language and literature HL. ECONOMICS ENGLISH It is not subjective. I can work really hard and memorize the definitions and concepts and it will be a right or wrong answer It is subjective, teacher A might like my essay but teacher B might say that it is a bad essay. Have to do paper three. Calculations Have two read two more books than SL student It takes up a lot of time to understand the concepts. We can’t really study for English. Just need to understand the text in depth. The grade boundaries is really different The grade boundaries are not too different. I’m planning to take fashion business as a university major. So economics will really benefit my knowledge for this major. Language will defiantly help me write thesis in university. However, it has nothing to do with my major. I’m really confused on which one I should drop. Anyone have any suggestions?

    TOK OP KQ Help

Hello! I'll be doing my TOK OP soon and my teachers aren't very helpful.. so I was wondering if I could show you all my brainstorm here and if you guys could deduce if it is doable? To what extent is language a reliable way of knowing in the natural sciences? My RLS is: The Father of Genetics, Gregor Mendel, in 1865 presented his results in German, the language of the Austro-Hungarian Empire of which he was a citizen living in Brun now in the Czech Republic. Unfortunately, his work was not noticed by the rest of the world until it was rediscovered by American researchers in the early 1900s. Much to their credit, they attributed the discovery of Mendel's Laws to him. How much more would the Science of Genetics have progressed had Mendel's work been known by the rest of the world instead of just among the German speakers since 1865? I'm arguing whether language is a reliable WOK in the natural science and my stand is that it is not because of it's inherent flaw as a WOK (language is subjective, the ubiquity of languages makes it difficult for the AOK in natural science because natural science is an objective study and language is tethered to emotion, culture, etc.) There's also the issue of loss in translation. In my presentation, I'm planning to talk about how monolingualism is a solution to the issue of the unreliability of language in natural science (i.e. adopting a universal language in natural science, it's always been a thing. Today, it's English) and real life examples of this is the use of IUPAC. On top of this, the use of models, diagrams help to overcome the unreliability of language. The reason why people need to come up with ways to work around the flaw of language is because without language, scientists would not have access to earlier established and accepted theories which means they would all have to start from the very beginning, the very basic ideas in their science. My counter-argument is that in practice, this 'homogenous' attitude selected a very specific way of looking at the world (due to monolingualism), therefore one can make it easy to discount other types of information as nothing more than folklore. I'm arguing that knowledge that isn't produced via traditional academic research methods which commonly exists in other languages still have scientific value such as indigenous tribes in Indonesia who knew from oral histories how to recognize the signs of impeding earthquakes, enabling them to flee higher ground before the 2004 tsunami hit. Furthermore, the very act of eradicating different languages in the approach to natural science might actually be a disadvantage to the construction of knowledge in general as less scientists may be motivated to conduct these experiments if the audience is not wide enough in their native tongue. What do you guys think? How can I improve? Thank you!
  20. I know that Ib requires four years of language. My question is about whether it has to be the same language for those four years. For example, could I take three years of Spanish and then one year of Chinese?
  21. Hello, as of right now I am taking Mandarin B SL in the IB diploma and I am in my first year of IB. I have taken Mandarin in international schools for about 5 years passing with mostly As. As I started my first year of IB and in my first few classes, I felt extremely out of place as many students were extremely capable in the language and throughout most of the text that we studied I literally knew nothing. I did not understand most of the questions and/or full texts, even though I haven't taken a test yet, I feel like I might be extremely horrible in the subject. On the other hand there is Spanish AB initio, which I have no prior knowledge in and am just thinking about it, in case learning Chinese becomes too hard. I am looking for top colleges and I am wondering if colleges would look down upon taking Mandarin for such a long amount of time and then dropping it. Or does it matter? Languages are not going to play a role in my college as I want to study sciences. I would like to know if I should persevere in the subject although I may not get a good grade or take Spanish AB which probably would be easier but I am not quite sure.
  22. Hello everyone I am currently in eleventh grade and today I have to make a choice on the topic that I will be writing my EE on. The ones that interested me the most were world religions, psychology and language and literature. From what I've read before, a lot of high scores come from language and literature. I am mostly interested in world religions, but I am not sure about how good my supervisor will be and also I am not sure about the criteria for it. For psychology, I heard that it is harder to score good considering the criteria they have for that subject. I am very confused because I do not want to choose something that will make my EE experience awful and will bring my grades down. Just for reference, my subjects: SL - Bio, Spanish (Ab initio), Maths (Studies) HL - Econ, English A, Psych Please answer, especially people who have the experience with these specific topics!! I have to submit my choice today :/ Thank you!
  23. I'm currently writing my Extended Essay and have already met with my adviser about my topic, but I'm not completely confident in my research question. I'm conflicted on whether it's too broad or if there wouldn't be enough to write on it. My research question is "How does George Orwell use the theme of psychological manipulation to further his warning of totalitarian governments in the novel 1984?" I'm in no way asking for anyone to rewrite this question for me or help me excessively, I just need some confirmation if/how I should make the research question better. Thanks in advance!
