  1. Are the November Exams harder than the May ones? Is it the difficulty of the actual exam, or the grade boundaries? or a misconception? I'm saying this because the grade boundaries for IGCSE additional math (0606) the November ones considerably higher than the may ones... and I'm thinking whether I should switch to another school because I cannot stand my current school eek

Hello, This is the Case Study for Computer Science HL 2020 Exams in May and November. Regards, AADARSHA G
  3. I am really stuck on how to solve these questions and I don't understand why the mark scheme says that the answers for question 8, 12 and 14 are A, A and D, respectively. I would greatly appreciate any help/suggestions/tips!! These questions are from the Paper 1 in May 2018 Timezone 2.
  4. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1KKZMguXKnIiGoeYc5XJfzZ9285sJzC5HoG6NWV9ocyI/edit HI everyone! I'm currently working on my math studies IA and I would really appreciate it if you guys could answer a couple of questions for the data collection! Thank you!!! (it's in both english and french)
  5. Hi, I'm starting IB soon but lately I've heard rumours about the IB finals- where apparently the November papers are easier than the May papers. Is this true and why so? Thanks!
  6. Hey! I need to get a research question and I am interested to become a Veterinarian and I want to do an IA connected to it, however, I am confused on the topic I can do for my biology IA.
  7. Hey Guys, I haven't seen any news about the new IB History curriculum that started in the May session 2017. Was wondering if it was any different from previous history courses, and what advice any post-IB students would give to those sitting History in November!! Cheers
  8. Hey, Does anyone know how to revise for the french ab intio exam?
  9. Hi guys, so basically I am going to take exams in May, but I am worried about Biology. Even though it is just SL, I still cannot find myself to like it whatsoever - I tried to watch videos online, visit webpages like BioNinja, where it is pretty simple, but I always found it too boring and either fell asleep or studied a different subject. I have English A HL LL, Czech A Literature and Geography HL. These are quite simple and I do not have to study for them much. Math Studies I basically revise, do past papers and use the questionbank. German B is also okay, and I find if fun actually. I somehow found myself to like all of these subjects, but Biology... I just hate it so much. Any tips? How did you study for the Bio exams? Please help Thank you!
  10. Hi all! I decided to upload a pile of questions. Please leave a comment on questions you'd like to verify :)! Today I chose some of questions I love from permutation/combination. Thanks for checking it out!
  11. Hi! I like this question as it deals with compound angle AND factor formula. Please enjoy and discuss your answer :)!
  12. Why not only rely on past papers? In my opinion, the best preparation with past papers is not to look over mark scheme. Essentially, as the name suggests, mark schemes only aim to aid teachers to mark student’s work on his paper. Not only does it lack with the detailed explanation, but also students lose their opportunity to encounter real IB style questions if they rely too much on mark scheme. For section A questions it relatively gives a good explanation; for Section B questions, however, when things get lengthy, explanations tend to be very concise and often do not make sense for students. It solely aims to guide teachers to base their grading criteria; it is not built for a model of ‘worked solutions.’ I encourage students more to discuss their solutions with friends. Also, IB community is very strong among students via internet, such as IB survival and IB Facebook group page. It’s a good place to start a discussion. Let me give you an example why you should avoid the habit of relying your study with mark schemes: Example: This is one of my favorite questions from IB HL. It not only tackles on definition of functions, but also it requires students to understand the concepts on Topic 1 and apply their skills to ‘unseen’ questions. If we look at Part (d) (iii), it asks about giving area in terms of a certain function A. The first part of the questions asks us to find out the relation between Fn and its inverse; here students are required to know what inverse relation is. For the geometrical interpretation, functions that are inverse to each other are symmetric along y=x. Then the second part tests our inequality skills with algebraic and geometrical interpretation: For Part (d), if you realize in the square box of 1 by 1, Fn is less than x, which means it is below y=x from 0 to 1, and since we know its inverse must be symmetric by y=x, the inverse must be above y=x. From this aspect, we can draw a random 1:1 function and work with the area to derive an answer. I believe this is how a student should approach to this type of question, since this ‘interpretation’ of function’s inverse with its algebraic property of composition and geometrical property of symmetry is the key for the unseen question. Let us compare our approach with the mark scheme of the question: As you can see, it’s painfully concise, and students cannot obtain their logical processing of this question from the mark scheme. Yes, when you apply the numbers and methods given by the mark scheme you could get the answer. But you will lose the essence of ‘interpretation’ skills as well as the half-independent attempt on this nice question. You can always elaborate your answer if your logic is correct; that is one of the greatest tactics for IB maths exam. PARTIAL mark!

  14. Hi! I'd like to upload a daily quiz for maths HL and SL students to prepare for their upcoming exams! Each day will be based on topics, so I decided to upload a topic 3 related questions for today [Wed]. Feel free to share your answer/ask a question for hint! I like this question a lot as it not only deals with sector area, but also some trigonometric identities. Standard Section A question! Enjoy http://imgur.com/a/uJTJs
  15. Hi! Here is for Thursday Question on Topic 4. Please share your thoughts. Thank you! http://imgur.com/a/OmBlI
  16. So there is a May session and a November session for the IB external assessment as I know, but do you take both sessions???? or do you get to choose one of them???? I am getting so confused. Wouldn't it be so unfair as people in May session get so much more time for preparation and what do people in November session do after they finish their exam? Aren't they basically done with IB? Someone pls help with my confusion! I am so so so confused!
  17. Discussion for the May 2017 TOK prescribed titles: “It is only knowledge produced with difficulty that we truly value.” To what extent do you agree with this statement?
  18. So I'm trying to find a IB May 2017 exam schedule to compare with the 2017 AP exam schedule so I'll know what exams I can take and when, and I've found this one. I've found this same schedule on multiple school websites, but is it the official one?
  19. I have unfortunately found this on the internet. Is it the real May 2017 timetable officially announced by IBO ??? Thank you
  20. Hi guys! Anyone sitting the SL ITGS exams next week? How's the revision going? I was also wondering if the examiners accept answers which are not on the mark scheme but are pretty sensible and relevant. How strict do they mark? Any ex-ITGS students have any tips? How harsh do they mark?
  21. Hey guys! Emergency help anyone knows or is the person that takes Russian A lit and who lived in China??? Please please
  22. Hey all! Chemistry Exam is in less than 20 days this May. IB chemistry is amongst the subjects with the most diverse and heavy content, each interlocking with one another. However, my problem that my teacher pointed out is not being able to use my knowledge in various topics. For example if acids and bases tied up with redox reactions, I will get nervous and not being able to answer as well. How do you revise for IB Chemistry Exam? Do you have any advice for me?
  23. Guys, I feel terrible before the exams- all previous year I was preparing to the important boxing championship, so I didn't studied anything in Biology, and our Economics teacher is just terrible- on our mock exams no one had more than 4! But the biggest problem is Biology, I don't remember and actually understand anything. I wonder if anyone has some useful links for preparation to Biology?
  24. If so, could any of you kind people link to the new syllabus? Thank you in advance!
  25. Hi everyone, My EE Topic selection deadline is coming, but I'm in trouble with topic. I have decided on a subject (Economics) and the area, it will be finance. I am thinking about choosing government policies and their impact, although I don't have the feeling that it is the right topic. If anyone has suggestions, please give me some hints/ideas. Thanks in advance.
