  1. What kind of effect does legislation have on a negative externality of consumption diagram? Do production costs increase and thus supply shifts to the left? Or does demand decrease? Or does it depend on the context and both could happen?
  2. Hey Guys, I'm trying to look for an article for my first IA draft, and the teacher requires us to do it on Microeconomics. Are there any specific economic scenarios that can be talked about from a Microeconomic standpoint? Thanks, Maharaja Stylo
  3. Can someone please grade my IA for me and give feedback. My conclusion is very weak and I feel like my explanations are mediocre. Reply if you are willing to help and I will share a link
  4. Hi, I am trying to come up with an EE topic (I am already pretty late on this whole EE thing) and the only subject left for me to do it in is economics I came up with the idea of producing my EE around the topic of books and ebooks, mostly because an uncle of mine actually runs a book distribution company and can help me a lot in finding info. My research question right now is: "To what extent did the introduction of e-books in affect the demand and sales for paperback books in the São Paulo region of Brazil?". I live in São Paulo, Brazil, by the way... While I think this might be pretty viable, it has a few problems as the demand and sales for books and e-books is constantly changing everywhere, for many reasons, especially now in the economic mess Brazil is. Because of this, I think it would be very hard to form a cause-and-effect relationship between the books and e-books. Also, according to this uncle of mine, who knows quite a bit about the topic, it would be hard to find information regarding specific sales and the effects of e-books in any one city or region of Brazil, but finding info for the whole country might be possible. As I mentioned, this topic seemed good at first but now presents many practical problems. It would be nice to be able to stick to the whole books theme, but if it's not possible, I will switch to another topic. Anyhow, does anyone have any suggestions, ideas or anything to say on the topic? Anything would be useful really, so if you can think of something please send it my way! Thank you in advance! PS - I've also heard that it might be a good idea to keep my EE focused on microeconomics. Is that true? Thanks again
  5. Hello, my teacher introduced EE today and I am wondering what topic I should research on. I chose econ for my EE. I will be in Japan during this summer and am planning to collect data from there. I am thinking microeconomics since its easier to get data. Do you guys have any ideas what I could do? 8. So I want to do my ee on economics and I haven't created rq yet. 9. I need help!! I'm doing my Extended Essay in Economics and I chose to do it on the airline industry. I wanted to do it about price discrimination and how a specific airline uses it (How does TAP use (third degree) price discrimination in order to increase revenue?) I talked about when you book you're flights and such but my teacher said I wouldn't find enough info on it.. Also, I am now realising how hard it actually to research on this because all of the information I can find is too broad and general to all airlines. She told me I should do it on market structures, something along the lines of "To what extent is the market for Lisbon to London flights an oligopoly?" Does anyone know how I can find information on this kind of thing?? How can I research stuff on market power and such= I have a draft due in a week and I'm starting to panic. Thanks guys
  10. Hey guys. So I'm doing a mock IA on this article http://www.southwales-eveningpost.co.uk/Minimum-alcohol-price-law-Wales-say-Labour/story-28029919-detail/story.html and its my first time writing an economics IA. I have written around 400 words however i don't know if I'm going on the right track. So initially I've talked about the article as a whole. Then about price ceiling (while defining it) and its effects (like excess supply) followed by a paragraph on how the government can combat the excess supply. Lastly i did a stakeholder analysis. (all adding up to around 400 words) I just wanted to know whether I'm going on the right track or whether its slightly "rookie-ish/amateurish"

  12. Hello Everybody, I am sitting my Econ exam in November, and I was wondering if I really needed to study the Theory of the Firm part of HL Econ. In Paper 1, don't they always give you an option of SL micro and HL theory of the Firm? And also for Paper 3, I could always choose the other two options right? Thanks for help,

  16. Hey guys! I have found this article http://www.irishexaminer.com/ireland/200-fewer-deaths-with-minimum-euro1-alcohol-price-318115.html and i am not sure whether i should mention both minimum price and negative consumption externality.
  17. Hi guys! I´m really in a struggle here, I´m writing my IA Microeconomics on this article http://www.forbes.com/sites/greatspeculations/2014/11/11/att-in-competition-with-america-movil-in-mexico-with-iusacell-acquisition/, but I´m really having a hard time on what graphs to use, can any of you explain to me the ideal/correct graph? 18. Hello, I found two articles for my IA, could you tell me which one is the best? http://www.bbc.com/news/health-30856656 http://www.bbc.com/news/health-30349398 Thank You!
  19. This is my notes that I compiled, and typed out myself to prepare myself for my finals in 2014. I am rather proud of this compilation as I have tried my best to make everything neat and easy to read. I also included formulas and definitions in my notes. Do note that I have left some space in between paragraphs for you to draw the graphs. Reason being: 1. Drawing graphs on Word is too time consuming 2. I think that drawing the graphs yourself will enable you to develop a better understanding of the different economic theories. I hope my notes will help you the way it helped me. I will submit my notes on macroeconomics when I have fully compiled everything. Have a great day! Regards, JJ
  20. http://www.businessweek.com/articles/2014-11-18/us-beef-supply-will-fall-again-in-2015-chicken-demand-will-rise i need help and ideas on what to do with this article thank you
  21. Hey guys, I'm doing an IA on this article, and I'm unsure on the ceilings and floors listed. Since price ceilings must be below market equilibrium (and floors above), how is it possible to represent the price range graphically? The price floor (IDR 0.77 million) would have to go underneath the equilibrium, wouldn't it? Thanks for the help!
  22. I need a topic for my economics EE. It must be from microeconomics. Help....
  23. Hello guys, I was given this article (http://www.bbc.com/news/health-29175088) to write my Microeconomics IA on, and I need some help in turning this article into a economics commentary. any suggestions of what i should talk about here? thanks!
  24. I've decided to start my Extended Essay with the topic of: "Impact of fuel subsdies on demand of MPVs in Indonesia" Background is that, fuel subsidies in Indonesia are decreasing - the prices of fuel are gradually rising, and I'll be investigating on how the higher prices of fuel may contribute to a change in the demand of MPVs (multi-purpose vehicles/minivans) in Indonesia. I'm thinking of applying the complementary good, determinants of demand, cross elasticity of demand (price of fuel affecting demand of cars) economic theories I'm just having doubts of what kind of economic theories I should apply as currently I find it lacking and is it still on-topic and relevant if I discuss and evaluate the fuel subsidy itself? - More cars means more pollution, etc. Still pretty much confused...
