  1. I just finished IB1 with quite solid grades, and the October predicts will be relatively high (41 with the 3 points added), but I feel that I have not done enough of the 'extracurricular activities' to actually amaze those guys at the oxford admission office. I am planning to study law and have not done any mooting/debates, I will however be in the ICJ at the September MUN. I have done some translations of articles for a thinktank's website, have conducted an interview with a philosopher of law, and have done some serious readings, but is it enough to impress them? Can I do something over summer to actually improve my personal statement? Btw., everyone in my family are lawyers, so I guess i feel the spirit of the metier, have understanding of legal issues and so on. Edit: I was thinking of doing a coursera ( /www.coursera.org) course related to law, but I don't know if it is worth it. Any opinions?
  2. Hi, guys! Can someone, please, explain me the global context "Scientific and technical innovation” - part "interaction between people and the natural world", with some examples, please?
  3. So my two options for the Personal Project are: 1. Roles of Women: impact and underestimation (do females have the ability to make a change on national level?) and 2. A social protest (How we should look < How we choose to look) with a focus on media influence and teenage insecurity. I like both the ideas however I have NO idea how to make an actual product out of either of them I was thinking of making a video out of the first option but that sounds so boring and for the second option I have absolutely no idea what kind of product I would make out of it :/ Anyways thanks in advance guys!!!

  5. Hi I might be abusing the rules a ting bit here........ I'm sorry! But I would like to cast a massive net so a lot of people will answer this questionnaire. It is a little lengthy and I apologize, but it is for my social anthropology fieldwork. I hope this doesn't irritate a lot of people but thank you so much to everyone who answer this https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1Z7p4dPF8wK3AU2qqr2HU_gJneFZig4pJbaGTvJj3wUQ/viewform?usp=send_form

    University help?

I'm planning to apply to the UK for biomedical sciences. My IB coordinator said that I need "experience" such as in GapMedics or else there's a slim chance I'll be accepted to any of the universities I'm applying to. Any comments? Is this really true? I live in the UAE and there aren't any opportunities to work for people under 18 years old so I don't know what to do Please help! Any help is highly appreciated!
  7. So I need help in writing my UCAS personal statement for biomedical sciences course. Any tips on how to write a convincing personal statement? Any help would be highly appreciated!
  8. So i have to propose a final topic (and its scope) to the teacher, but one of the criteria for the exploration is the ''Personal Engagement'' one (i think it was 0 to 4 points). We went through several samples in the class, and i did see some personal POV in them (e.g. one where there was a guy who was saying how he chose the topic because he was some athlete and was curious about the probability of scoring a goal) I know i'm really interested in biology, especially microbiology, but i'm not sure how can i combine that with mathematics (and keep it ''challenging enough for SL level''). I was also thinking about the topics ''fractals in nature'' and 4D geometry, but i'm struggling with those ideas as well. -Firstly, the teacher said that the Fractal topic is very commonly done as an exploration, so it really has to be good and personal. -Secondly, how do i make 4D geometry personal if it isn't exactly something which you can have in your everyday life. Might as well delete this thread since no one can help and i'm changing my topic..yet again.

    Applying to LSE

Hi, I have applied for the Social policy and economics course at LSE this friday. However, my other University choices were either economics or economics and management. My personal statement, though, is weighted a lot towards economics, but DOES have a section on social policy. Predicted 42/45 IB points (HL - 7 in Economics, 7 in English B, 6 in Mathematics and 6 in History, SL - 6 in Physics and 7 in Russian A, TOK - A, EE - A). Do I stand a chance of getting an offer from Social Policy and Economics course?
  10. Hello Good People!!! How did you guys write your personal statements? I know that US can be a informal write-up that talks about unique life experiences or certain event (e.g. some accident, competition, difficulty you had to go through) and UK has to be very formal write up that talks about your qualities, achievements, why you are interested in certain jobs and so on. For my case, I am applying to a university in Switzerland. If I am submitting a personal statement, must it be formal (like UK) or informal (like US)? I would also be applying to universities Hong Kong, Singapore and US. I don't mind doing several write-ups if that is necessary. Just want to know what are the appropriate tones required for each personal statements. Thank you!!

  13. Hello! As you might suggest from the title I am writing my TOK essay on the fourth question. I hade submitted a very well TOK essay, which is however lacking on my personal views. I am aware of when we should trust our intuitions but when we should discard them is questionable. What are your experiences? When did you discard an explanations that was intuitively appealing in real life and how did you deal with it. Best wishes! Niggi Green
