  1. Hello! I need some suggestions or at least a bit of help with an IA research question. I'm interested on the case of Jack the Ripper, although I am struggling terribly with a research question. I wanted to do something about the consequences after the Jack the Ripper case had been open up to the public. Like did the police changed the way they do their work? How did the public take it? Like that sort of thing, although I'm not sure where to start to do this research question.
  2. Hey guyss~! ^ ^ Just need some advice on my extended-essay RQ for art. So as of now, we are in the process of finalizing our research question and by next week, we are to create an outline. My research question is, "How did Edgar Wright translate the stylistic features of the graphic novel, Scott Pilgrim, into the film, Scott Pilgrim vs The World?" My EE supervisor was satisfied with the RQ. However, she advised me to narrow down the term "stytlistic features". Just having trouble here since I want to make use of art terms to further support the subject base of this EE which is Arts. Any advice or recommendations ? Thanks again~!! ^ ^ Gladly appreciate the help
  3. I've been struggling with my chem ia topic - every idea I have turns out to be too hard to pursue with my current knowledge and skills or I just have no idea how to come up with an actual method to measure something. My teacher isn't too helpful either - she isn't too keen to give me any tips or help me develop my ideas into a valid research question. Lately, I've been thinking about investigating how does the presence of different metal ions affect the rate of hydrolysis of esters. Is it a good idea, should I take it seriously and look into it? And what method could I use?
  4. Research Question: How do the authors of "Of mice and men" and "The Great Gatsby" explore the pursuit of the American Dream during different time periods? Hi, can you please advise me if my research question is either too broad for an English EE, and if it is how should I adjust it to make it more suitable? Also, I have already done a brief plan, which is to compare the similarities and differences in how the theme 'American Dream (AD)' is explored in the books during the Great Depression and the Roaring 20s, for instance in 'Of mice and men' the author explores the AD using different characters to represent unattainability of the AD; however, I am struggling on which aspects of the American Dream I should discuss about as well as the depth of exploration or analysis is needed. So at what depth should my analysis on the American Dream be? And how should I try to implement the different time periods within my analysis? Can anyone please help me as soon as possible, thank youuu!
  5. Hello everyone, I am a doing DP1 at the moment and I would like to hear some opinions about my research question in biology. My research question is: "Is there a significant difference between gamers and non-gamers reaction time?". I will use a click test which records the reaction time of when someone clicks on the computer screen when it changes to green. Please tell me if I should be more specific or what I could improve in this question. Thank you very much!
  6. I need to change my RQ a little bit probably... I know it is not good to make an EE of science without doing experiments yourself, but I won't change my mind. My RQ is Why are the physicochemical effects of celestial bodies important to generation of life? I will narrow the life, but I don't know if I should focus on a certain physical or chemical effect, since the information might not be enough. Celestial bodies I think maybe using one astro, or using more and comparing them.(I think Jovial and/or Saturnine systems). Would appreciate some help...
  7. Hi, this is my first year as a diploma. So for my extended essay, I chose psychology as my subject. And my topic is the influences of parenting style on the behavior of an ADHD child. I'm still brainstorming about which behavior might be suitable for my EE. I came to a conclusion on self-confidence, and anxiety. Any tips regarding my EE topic? Or any advice for a suitable behavior I should research on? THANKSSS~
  8. Hey! Sooo... I'm about to begin writing my extended essay, and though I've got some ideas I liked to write about, I'm somewhat stuck with the research question. Could someone help me design (or give ideas) for a research question to begin writing about?? Or maybe tell me some tips if you're writing / wrote on these subjects?? I'm trying to decide myself between writing about the Naval Technologies implemented during the XVIIth century because of the Pirates (defense mechanisms, bigger, fatter ships, etc.) or Spanish Linguistics, maybe jewish influence on the language. Thanks!! I'll appreciate all your help 😅 Lukas
  9. Hey guys, idk if I have a good IA research. I currently have "What is the effect of plant growth in antibacterial products on peas and sunflower"? Is this a good ia question. Any suggestion is helpful
  10. I need a to form a "research question" for my EE, I just don't know what kind of question. I know for my EE I want to analyze either Debussy's string quartet and Ravel's string quartet (based on debussy's) or just Debussy's alone, but how do you make a question out of that? I have something along the lines of "To what extent did Debussy's String Quartet affect the structure and content of Ravel's string quartet" or something like that but I feel like that isn't like... IB enough. Like AP focuses more on music theory specifically but Ib music focuses more on analyzing the context, style, and feeling of music rather than the technical aspects of it, and I feel like that research question doesn't encourage enough analysis of that. Any other suggestions?
  11. For my Art EE, I was thinking of using the question "How are American and Japanese art influenced by one another and how are they different?". Is this topic too vague? Should I specify a specific area of art? Is the topic even usable at all? Any feedback and suggestions on this topic would be great. My 2,000 word checkpoint is next week and I haven't even started so I need help ASAP!! Thanks!
  12. Hey, I need help finding a research question for my Global Politics Extended Essay. I want to write about 9/11 but I have no Idea of what to write about or what to do. My supervisor is new to IB and doesn't know anything about the program or anything and I'm starting to get really worried. I just need help finding or a little guidance to find a narrow research question related to 9/11, please.
  13. I will write my ee on Neverwhere by Neil gaiman and this is to be my rq, to what extent was existentialism the guiding factor for portraying dispossessed in Neil Gaimans Neverwhere? Is this a good research question and if not how can i improve it?
  14. Hi. I've decided to do my EE in English, focusing on Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. I'm not getting any good advice from my supervisor, and the internet isn't really helping me. I've gone through a lot of book changes prior to this, more specifically dystopian and feminist books. However, I've read that these are really overused topics, so I wanted to try to think out of the box. I decided to choose Percy Jackson because I think that there is a lot of content I can analyze for my 4,000 words. It's okay to choose a relatively 'easy' book for EE, right? Right now, I need help on choosing a topic and formulating a good research question. Honestly, I'm stuck at choosing which topic I should focus on. I'm scared if the topics I have in mind will be good enough for an EE. I would really appreciate feedback on the topics, and the research questions that come along with them. Here's what I have so far. 1. The Portrayal of Greek Mythology in Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief How does Riordan portray classic characters from ancient Greek mythology in Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief? : Classic vs revised character traits of the Greek gods How does Riordan associate ancient Greek mythology with modern literature in Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief?: Plots of the original Greek myths affected by modern technology, environment, characteristics of the Greek gods, etc. 2. Family Roles in Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief How does Riordan portray family roles in Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief?: Nature of family, duties and responsibilities of a parent and a child; how gods neglect their roles as parents, and how their demigod children are expected to do more 3. Coming of Age in Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief How does Riordan portray the coming of age in Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief?: How internal conflicts faced by the character is portrayed in the form of monsters and evil villains 4. The Hero Concept in Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief How does Riordan define the meaning of a hero in Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief?: Characteristics of a hero; analysing different characters and how they are considered heroes
  15. I’m doing my Extended Essay on the effects on the city’s tourism of a music festival and all the smaller events it sponsors. I’m planning to mention how it gathers people and activates different economic areas, so it triggers economic growth in the region. My question would be ‘To what extent is the music festival effective at increasing tourism in the city?’ or something along those lines. Though I think it’s too broad and should be specified more. I appreciate any tips on how to make it more narrow or maybe approach the question in a different manner! Thanks.

    History IA

I have two questions for which I can't decide which one is the best one for my history IA, which one do you think is better or how can I make one better for my IA? What policies did Hitler enact in order to get total control over Germany? What effect did Nazi Germany have on public and civilian life?
  17. Hey so for my extended essay in physics i came up with this topic: "The optimum conditions required to create the most efficient waterwheel". I was wondering if this was too vague or if it has too many things consider. Please tell me what you think
  18. Hi everyone! Ok so, my original Extended Essay research question was "How are the common themes of betrayal and love portrayed differently in the Shakespearean comedy “A Midsummer’s Night Dream” when compared to the tragedy “King Lear.” However, my adviser said that it was too narrow for an EE and I should compare two different playwrights instead. I'm not really interested in going outside of Shakespeare, so I have decided to completely change my topic. I'm still sticking to English Literature, but I think I'm leaning towards novels instead. This is where I need help. I really want to do something with "A Thousand Splendid Suns" since it's a beautiful book, relates to me personally, and I haven't seen it used in any Extended Essays so far. Besides that, I don't really know which direction I should go in. A little guidance or some suggestions would be helpful and much appreciated. Also, if my original topic could be somehow be salvaged, I'd be incredibly grateful for that. Thank you so much! Update: I did some research and I'm considering maybe comparing "A Thousand Splendid Suns" with "The Bastard of Istanbul." Lemme know what you think! Thanks!
  19. Hi, Im having trouble deciding exactly what my ee research question is. Im doing one comparing the giver and the handmaidens's tale and looking at what characterizes dystopian novel such as these, is that a good enough reasearch question or too broad? I separated my essay into looking at: What is supposed to be the ideal? Who is in charge(benefiting)? here i also looked at how they ruled with both fear or respect and how they contrasted Who is paying (losing)? Who tries to stop it? And then my teacher suggested I look at what this says about us, but I fear this may be cutting it too close to the word limit. In general, if you have any suggestions or ideas, I'd be happy to hear them!
  20. My research question is What is the significant effect of pH in irrigation solutions in the allometric relationship of growth in Raphanus raphanistrum subsp. Sativus (Radish)? How do I change question so that it is more EE relevant? (deeper, more insightful, original) My teacher thinks that it is like an IA Topic however, it can be changed to make it more significant to analyze, as how EE should be. Please help! Thank you
  21. I plan to do my Extended Essay on Economics, specifically price discrimination. Please share your thoughts on my Research Question and suggest how I can make it better.RQ : To what extent does the price discrimination that exists in the Cafes in Bukit Jelutong affects the consumer’s demand?I’ve noticed that the local Cafes where I live in, has a common practice of price discrimination for either students through student discounts or happy hours where any meals bought at a specific time is offered at a lower price. Being someone who enjoys these price discrimination, it has made me wonder how effective it actually is. Do these cafes actually experience higher customer traffic when such price discrimination is implemented? I plan to test this through analyzing whether the price discrimination leads to higher demand of the good.
  22. I have around 3 weeks until I need to turn in my final draft of my extended essay, and I am just now starting. I know I shouldn't have procrastinated, but I did and now I have to deal with the consequences. Anyways, I know my topic will be on Dirty Realism (a style of writing that depicts the more mundane aspects of ordinary life), and I know that I will include writers like Richard Wright and Tobias Wolff in my essay. Now what I don't know is my research question. I have two in mind: 1. How does Richard Wright and Tobias Wolff use Dirty Realism in their works? 2. What is the role of Dirty Realism in Richard Wright and Tobias Wolff's works? Are either of these any good? And if not, what changes should I make to these questions?
  23. Hi! For my extended essay, I wanted to write a non-experiment-based research paper on clostridium difficile colitis (a disease in the colon caused by bacteria). I want to talk about the etiology and epidemiology, method of transmission, and growth/reproduction of bacteria in my essay. Does anyone have a good idea on a research question I can use? I'm not sure on how to create a research question about a disease, especially since I am not conducting an experiment. Thank you:)
  24. Is this research question focused/good enough? I've had a lot of trouble with it. How is the changing women's ideal beauty image over the later half of the 20th century reflective upon American social culture? How should I word this not so awkwardly? And is it solid and focused enough to write 4000 words on? I want to write about how different cultural effects have had on the ideal beauty image and how that image is a product of the social/political times. This would make this investigation a theoretical study right? Because I am mostly looking at secondary sources and looking at each era to see what social movements influenced the ideal image of then. I'm not taking this course so I'm worried I will do mediocre on it. How should I approach this? ANY ADVICE PLEASE!
  25. Hi i am working on my english ee and i was wondering if this sounds like a strong enough research question to start out with? How does Ken Kesey use the fog motif and indirect characterization of the secondary characters in the novel One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest to demonstrate that everyone has a false perception of reality? thanks
