  1. I have my Pre-IB french interview at Victoria Park CI tomorrow! I know how to do an interview, but can someone please tell me what they will ask ASAP! Thanks!
  2. Hello, I would like to do the IB the next year but my parents don't want to let me it. Why? As they say that the IB isn't important, the French Baccalaureate is enough and widely recognized around the World. Which is not utterly true. The nearest IB World School is up to 150km from my home, so I'm forced to go to an outstanding IB boarding school in United Kingdom. I am fully motivated for this kind of experience except my parents (my father understands me a bit but my mother does not) are against this idea of wasting 2 years of doing a "useless" programme. It triggers me everyday, the deadline becomes sooner and I haven't sent my application form yet. My mother thinks that I'm wasting my time when I'm thinking of the IB. Please, could you give some arguments which will help me to persuade my parents? How can I say to them that the IB is more important than the French Baccalaureate (I want to study abroad, to Australia)? Do you know a website or a blog where everything about the IB is explained? Thanks in advance!
  3. I need your advice on this one guys, here's the somewhat summarized story: So I went to this IB school abroad for a year and came back home for the summer, turns out my parents ran out of money and now I've been out of school for 3 months and I'm still back home. IA's started about a month and a half ago and I was working on my history IA from home, Biology IA started and after talking to the teacher he told me the coordinator told him that I'm not allowed to work on them from home because of the "academic honesty" policy, they then asked my parents to give them another date; they did, and it's in 20 days, the school said that's the final delay date I can have and that if I don't get there by then I'm out and have to take 2nd year next year. I highly doubt my parents can can renew my visa, do what I need to do and get on a plane within that period of time, so I feel like the end is just inevitable. The thing is, now I feel like I've completely lost a chance at anything. I'm done, it's over...what's the point now? I recently got a message saying that even if I go over there on the final date I'm still not allowed to take the exams and I'll just be a "normal" student and will have to start my 2nd year next year anyways...what do I do? Go there anyway and waste my time? The teachers don't teach anything useful for the exams except for maybe 2-3, and even then they can't cover as much as independent studying could because of how big the class is. Aren't I better off spending hundreds of dollars and ordering the books myself and paying for the ridiculous shipping fee's and paying someone to let me print out all the past papers and just studying by myself at home? Then comes the issue of how stressful life is back home, it's nearly impossible to keep focus without something happening, or get distracted by all the different things to do, or procrastinate and cry myself to sleep because of how messed up everything is.
  4. Hello all, Long story short I dropped the full IB diploma a few days ago and I am now currently doing the IB certificate. I am doing 6 subjects, 4 SL's and 2 Hl's. I dropped Biology HL to SL, it was just too much content for me to handle. Anyways, my question is will I be able to get admitted into a good school? I'm focusing more on Canada than America in terms of schools. I am in my second year of IB and my current score is 26 but I'm trying to push it up. My counselor and I emailed most of my American schools and they mostly said they don't care about whether it's the full diploma or certificate but 1. I don't have very high grades and 2. My SAT score is not that competitive. Right now I seriously feel like I'm not going to get accepted anywhere and my parents will kill me. I'm so disappointed in myself but I'm trying to push through. Please tell me if you think I'll have a shot at getting accepted. Also please feel free to add any schools you would think I have a shot at. For Canada I'm looking at University of Calgary, UBC, Queens, Thompson Rivers, Western University , Brock, York and University of Ottawa. I was also thinking of University of Sydney in Australia but I'm not sure...
  5. Hey, in case you haven't heard Texas got hit hard with Huricane Harvey. If you live in Texas and your school is cancelled, I heard you might not be back for up to 4 months and maybe more depending on the damages. There are IB schools all over in other states and I attend one of the top IB schools in Georgia. It's called Douglas County High School (Douglasville, Ga) and if you want to continue your studies so you don't get behind please come out. Our teachers are encouraging us to get you guys to come so you can finish out IB, especially if you're a senior. I wish you all the best of luck and I hope your families are safe.
  6. Okay so a year ago a joined this school which had just started IBDP. I thought because it's new it will be better and they will pay more attention to us. We are only five kids. Four of us are not from India, (this is a school in India). Three of us are from Thailand and one is from Canada. So it's been a whole year and so far there are only some subjects we have done IB related. the rest the teachers are trying to make it as bookish as possible, because (a) The teachers have not trained according to the IBDP curriculum, (b) they are teachers of the CBSE board and they don't like the IB way of teaching. The teachers really seem to hate us because they can't control us or the way IB is taught. And if we complain, nobody acts on it because they think we are rebelling. Also some of the teachers never tell us anything about the actual exam. Like they themselves don't know anything about past papers. Whenever we have tests some teachers are so biased they literally mark us according to which student they like best. We have tried talking to everyone but nobody listens to us. And I feel we are jeopardising our future and wasting our time here. We go for any activity and they say that the IB kids are always roaming around and the CBSE kids are better, which is seriously very dis motivating. Secondly all they make us do is study from the books. We never have PE. In CAS they make us sit on the computer and make us write reflections. I am so lost and I feel emotionally drained. Is there any way to contact the IB board about this
  7. Hey guys, this is my first time using IB Survival and I found out that it is really beneficial for the IB student. My Physics EE revolves around the effect wheels have on the recoil momentum of a potato cannon. RQ: To what extent does the rolling friction of wheels affect the recoil momentum of a potato cannon after launch? I just want your opinion on my research question and my topic, and if you believe it can be improved please let me know. As for the experiment itself, I am planning on building a potato cannon (with and without wheels) and comparing these three things after the launch of the potato: the location of the cannon, the speed of the potato, and the distance the potato traveled. Please let me know if there is a problem with my approach and how it can be improved, it would mean the world to me. Thank you
  8. Hey! I'm going to be starting the Pre-I.B French Immersion (grade 9) program this upcoming September, and I been trying to get a head start. I'm going to be doing a lot of reviewing and studying to help me prepare for pre-I.B! I was wondering if any of you can recall what you all learnt in grade 9 pre-I.B (english, science, french, math, etc...). I've tried researching the curriculum online, but I never get great results! Thank you so much! I really appreciate all your responses! - Girl Online
  9. Hi everyone, I just got my letter of acceptance for the I.B program, which I will be attending next year for grade 9 (I'm going to be doing the french immersion program as well!!) I really want to start off on the right foot, so I was wondering if any of you had some tips you wished you had known going into the I.B program? I know it's a very difficult program to be in, but I really want to do well and succeed so I would really appreciate your help! Thanks!!! P.S, Thank you all so much for your advice and tips for I.B! I've been really freaking out lately about the program and you all helped so much. I will definitively be using all your tips to help me prepare for the program! Let the studying begin!!!
  10. Hi everyone! I have seen a post similar to the one I'm just about to make, but I thought this might be lots of fun. So during your school life I'm sure you did/said funny things which make you chuckle and/or cringe every time you take a walk down the memory lane. Since there are many things that happened to me, I thought it would be cool if we shared our stories and laughed together. I'll start In grade 8 I was talking to my friend how clumsy he was because he tripped over his bag pack. As soon as I finished the sentence I tripped over MY OWN FEET and fell face-first onto the floor. I haven't commented on his clumsiness ever since...Also I grade 8, I wanted to compliment a girl in my class. I was the "new kid" back then, so I tried to come across as nice and polite. She was wearing really formal clothes, so I wanted to tell her she looks mature. My brain however decided to change what I wanted to say and I ended up saying "You look old in this outfit." Her look and my stuttering whilst I tried to clarify what I meant make me cringe and laugh to this day. Probably most hardcore one on the list now. This year, me and my friends were playing the game "Heads Up" in the cafeteria. The card deck was "Bad Behaviour" and it was my turn to be the mime/person showing that certain action. The cafeteria in my school has 3 glass walls, so you can see everything that happens both inside the school as well as the area outside the school. My word was "flashing" so i decided to pull my shirt up to my friend. I knew I had another shirt underneath it, so I thought it wouldn't be a big deal. Clumsy me however took BOTH of my shirts up, revealing my chest up to the point of my breasts (right underneath them). As if this wasn't bad enough, I looked outside to see one of my teachers LOOKING at us and at what we were doing. WE MADE EYE CONTACT as I was STILL holding my shirt up... He didn't want to hear my explanation... So, any stories you'd like to share and laugh at with others? Can't wait to read what happened to you during your school/university years!

  15. Hi guys, I'm in Grade 10. Although it's the end of the year, how should I spend my summer before the IB starts? List of what I'm planning to do: Practice for SATs Read books for English HL Literature Revise notes/ textbooks for HL history, SL math and SL Spanish B Do CAS hours ( prepare for MUN, go to guitar lessons, kickboxing, planning schedule for community service club) Thanks for any advice!
  16. Hey all, So my parents are thinking of moving me to another school for my IBDP, but I like my current school. I'd love some of your thoughts on which school is "better". Current School: -IB Average of 30, though this year it's a predicted 35 (predicted). -Alumni have attended NYU, Berkeley, UCLA, Several Russell Group Unis, Parsons, but not Ivies/Oxbridge. -Does not offer English Lit. -Lots of friends, therefore more CV/CAS opportunities. -The CAS teacher wants me to lead a community service event next year, I'll create a program for our students and we'll travel to an island and do some community service in collaboration with a local charity organisation. -Active in Student Council, MUN, School Journal, etc. If I were to stay in this school, I would take: English A Lang/Lit HL, Indonesian A Lit SL, Biology HL, Psychology HL, Math SL, and Theatre SL. Other School: -IB Average of 35 -Alumni have attended Oxbridge, Columbia, Cornell, Russell Group Unis, etc. -The only school in the country who offers an English Lit course. -They don't have a psychology class, it's an online course via Pamoja and I'm taking Psych HL so it will definitely be harder. -My biggest concern is that I will not have a lot of friends. This may seem childish but it's not about being popular, it's about the fact that I may not be able to get positions demonstrating my leadership skills if people don't like me. I know that unis, US unis specifically, want to see a good CV/CAS and I'm afraid that few friends = few leadership opportunities = mediocre CV/CAS. If I were to move to this school, I would take: English A Lit HL, Indonesian A Lit SL, Biology HL, Psychology HL (online course), Math SL, and Theatre SL. I'd love to know what you guys think, and other comments/input are welcome!
  17. How do you guys stop this procrastination ****?? Feel free to share humorous anecdotes as well
  18. Hey everyone. So I'm starting IBDP next term. I'm very conflicted about where to study. In my city the prestigious IB schools are crazy expensive. They can cost about $20000-$35000 a year. There's this new school that's just starting IB next term. If I go there, I'll be in their very first batch. They're really really new (I think they've only been around for 4-5 years) and right now their eldest class is grade 9. They don't have gr 10. They're also pricey; about $13000 a year. Their compound is 2 hectares and the teachers, I've heard, are very qualified (mostly Aussies and Americans). I have good impressions about the school. Everyone is very professional and kind. But I really don't know if I'd do well there, considering they have no experience in IB and the teachers have only been trained to teach IB for 3-4 months(There's 3 more months to go before the term starts). They're giving out 30%,60% and 100% scholarships. Only 9 people applied and 5 got called back for a personal interview. I personally think I did good. The other 4 students are my friends. Some of them said they didn't do so well. They have 10 slots for the scholarship, btw. I personally think I have a good chance of getting 60%. My parents don't agree on spending $40000 only for high school. Which is why this school might be my only chance of doing IB, if I do get the scholarship. What do you think?? How important is it that I have to have the best teachers to succeed in IB? I'm also worried that we'll only have like less than 10 people enrolling.. Also idk what CAS I can do here. I've heard people raising $1000 funds in their schools, and idk how I can do that when all the students are still very young. I probably can be the head of the school newsletter though, considering they don't have it yet.....
  19. Hello everyone! So, for some of us, the Easter Break has just begun and we have two weeks of freedom. Now, I know that we should take that time and rest as our brains need to relax, but I can't imagine spending the next two weeks watching only Breaking Bad and some cat videos on YouTube. I want to change something about it, have something to talk about when we come back to school. I also think that this time would be great time for some revisionas the exams are coming up. I'm also the type of person that likes to explore new things and ideas, as well as learn new things. I think that knowledge is the best thing someone can have, and the fact that we can expand it in so many ways is just unbelievable! A question for you guys: What do you do in order to spend that time productively? Are you a type of person that prefers to wake up at 1pm and go to bed at 4am or a kind of person that like to wake up at 8am and go to bed at 10pm? Any revision tips, or maybe things we should all try out to make this time less boring and more enjoyable? I think that if we all write some tips and ideas down, we could all learn from each other and find our new hobbies and/or activities! Can't wait to read your suggestions! Mac117 PS. I know some of you will suggest reading a book, but I already read all of them. I found some cool ones from another topic on this forum, so I should get my hands on them pretty soon. PS2. I'm sorry for those that write exams this May as they probably have to study all day, don't take that personally!
  20. I have a question that you guys might be able to help me with. I know that I want to go to school and be a teacher but I can't figure out if I want to be a High school or Elementry school teacher. I have pros and cons for each but nobody in my family wants me to be a teacher because they think it's stupid. I'm just looking for other people's opinions on the matter, and what you might do. Thank you for taking the time to read my post. :3
  21. Hello everyone. Today's situation inspired me to create this topic and indirectly to comfort myself by realising I'm (hopefully) not alone. This topic relates a bit to the one about personality types, but lets begin. Today during my lunch break I decided to stay inside as I didn't really feel like running in the heat with my classmates, but the teachers wanted me to go outside (we have to, I don't know why). I have anxiety and they know about that, but my English teacher doesn't believe me and asked me (sarcastically) "Oh, do you have another one of your anxiety things?". I wanted to lie, because I don't like to talk about this to anyone. He pushed until I told him "No sir, I take medication, so I'm better now." He was quite shocked but I just had to pretend I left my phone in the locker and had to get it because it got really awkward. They didn't say anything, but I have to see them both everyday and I cringe every time I recall this event. How I stop being that way? Am I the only one, or is anyone else like this? I don't like talking to people, I'm an introvert, and my anxiety doesn't really help me either... Extroverts, please help, because I think I should be homeschooled. Hopefully we can exchange our experiences and be awkward together
  22. So a lot of people at my school have been talking about how if someone doesn't work hard, but still gets an A in a class (without cheating), they don't deserve the grade as much as someone who has to study a lot to get the same grade. I know how it feels to be on both sides, as certain subjects are challenging for me while others are more intuitive, and I found this almost offensive. Curious to hear other people's thoughts on this.
  23. Today, my IB coordinator came and told us that from this generation, class of 2016, we must defend our EE ORALLY, and it will be recorded by camera?! Has anyone of you heard anything about this? It was a shock for all of us at my school... I don't know what to say. I hope it's not true...
  24. What do you think? What is the easiest combination in terms of both workload and content that you can come up with? Help a lazy IB student over here!
  25. Hello everyone. So, I'm kinda embarassed by what I did but I do need help, even though it's not the end of the world. But before that a little backstory. I'm a 9th grade student, doing my IGCSEs. Even though I joined the school about a year ago, I quickly adjusted to the new environment and the education system. I'm the kind of guy that gets good grades, in the high 90s and even 100s. When I was new, it didn't bother anyone and no one really cared about it, until this year. This year I became more talkative and social, made more friends and enjoyed my school time. However, I was still getting those high results from my hard work and engagement, therefore making me a "nerd". Now, I know that I shouldn't care what other people think because I'm going to be the one that later is going to "win", but I think I started to crack a bit. And on my last exam, I cracked under pressure. What I did was something not a sane person would do. During my science exam (it was biology to be exact), I changed my answers to completley wrong. Not all of them, just some, because a) I didn't want to fail, and b) I just wanted to stop being made fun of. And I got what I wanted - instead of a high 90, I got a low 70. Now, I know it's not that bad , but the thing is, my teacher knows I know more and that I should get a higher result, because the day before the exam I was the only one in class that knew the answers from the past papers, and almost the exact questions came on the test. I checked my grade online, so I didn't meet my teacher yet, but I'm pretty sure he'll suspect something. He already asked me few times if I'm okay because I don't participate as often as used to, but I usually just said I was tired or something. I was happy to tell my classmates that I got a 70, but still was called a nerd, as the classes average was 55%… I want to tell my teacher what I did, because I'm afraid I am going to do this again, which I don't want to happen. I'm just concerned he is going to call my parents and make me talk to the head teacher, which is something I would like to avoid, as I'm a very awkward person.. I hope someone can help me, because I don't want to get pulled down by the others.. Ps. When it comes to grades, I never brag about them, or try to make myself better because of my results. It's usually them asking me, and later making fun of me. Note that I cannot lie because they usually want to see my exam/ have it for their correctins, so that's not really an option.. mac117
