  1. Hey guys, so my teacher told me that for my math IA, i have to have my text double-spaced, although this results in my IA being long 16 instead of 12 pages! Is that really necessary, or not? Also, she told me to improve on the reflections, but I don't quite understand how. How can you critically reflect on the maths that you have? Can you give me an example? Please anyone, give some advice. Thank you in advance.
  2. Hi! I'm considering taking econ SL or HL. I think I would like the subject but I'm not good t maths and I'm wondering if this would hinder to success in the subject. I found SL maths in preIB quite difficult and I'm going to take studies in the IB. How big of a role does maths play in econ and is there a difference in the amount of maths between SL and HL? Thanks already in advance!
  3. I am currently in the process of selecting my IBDP courses, and was curious about subject requirements for engineering at Cambridge University. I intend to choose: HL: Maths Physics Economics Arabic SL: Business English Lit and Lang
  4. Dear students, How hard was french B SL? Did you sometimes find yourself staring at your comprehensions not understanding a word? In my school, it's extremely hard (even at SL). Is it really very hard? Thank you!!
  5. Hi! I'm considering taking geography SL or HL in the IB. However, when I was researching the subject I noticed that in the syllabus there's quite a lot of stuff on gender equality. I found a link to a book called "Planet Geography Second Edition Equity" from the page "Populations in Transition" (from ibo.org) that is one of the compulsory topics under the heading "textbook resources" that addressed the issue of gender and change. I looked a bit deeper into it and found that there was a lot of material on "feminist geography" especially on the pages 100-105. Since this was directly linked on ibo.org I reckon this is something we will cover during the courses. Is geography in the IB looked through the lens of leftist values and social justice? I agree that women have less rights in many countries and we should cover that when talking about basic human rights but what I don't agree with is politically biased syllabuses. Does IB geography actually have a political agenda? I really hope I've misunderstood something.
  6. I'm writing my first IA draft and I realise that I am very wordy, or maybe I'm putting too many details in but I've only done my introduction and social factors for my STEEPLE and I am now up to 1034 words..? I'm thinking of just doing a PEST analysis instead, but I still want to do my SWOT analysis. So my questions are: 1. Do words count if they are in a table? 2. Do I need to define what a PEST/SWOT analysis is before getting to the details like we're supposed to in exams? 3. Is it bad to be citing information and statistics from a lot of other places other than the supporting documents that you're including in the appendix? Is it bad to be having so many supporting stats in the first place? It feels like most of my 'commentary' is mostly describing what the market environment is like, accounting for why it's like how it is, with a tiny bit of "so what" at the end. Again, just based on my social factors. I kind of want to paste that para here to ask but that'll prob bite me back later...could I pm somebody? 4. "Will the implementation of localisation strategies be enough to allow Airbnb to circumvent the threats that the Chinese market poses?" Does this sound like a rhetorical question? My friend says it sounds like a rhetorical question T.T How would I make my RQ sound less like a rhetorical question? 5. Could I just exceed the word limit for the 1st draft cuz I get super attached to my words (this is semi-rhetorical hah =l ) Thank you! (pandas are soo cute <3)
  7. Hey I live in the Netherlands started DP1 this week and I was wondering if any European students that were also doing the IB wanted to create a study group. It would be cool if we took similar subjects so that we could help each other out, and I think it doesn't matter really were in Europe as the time is either the same or 1 or 2 hours difference Anyway if anyone is interested hmu. My IB classes are the following: Chemistry HL Biology HL English A Lit HL Geography SL Spanish SL Math SL
  8. Hello, I just recently started IB2, and am already stuck at art, my theme is architecture, I have a few pieces that have small meanings behind them but cant think of anymore pieces to make, so I wanted to ask if we had to have a meaning in every piece, or can I just draw the Florence Cathedral? Sorry for bad engrish.
  9. Hey guys, I'm currently doing my Maths IA on correlation and I was looking at samples from the IBO and from different places on the internet. People seem to always calculate what Pearson's correlation coefficient and averages are manually when they can do it on their graphical calculator and include a snapshot. I'm doing that but because everyone is doing it manually, I'm starting to wonder whether doing it on my calculator will get me marks in Criterion E: Use of Mathematics. Also, literally my whole IA is based on snapshots from my graphical calculator - will that get me marks?
  10. Hey! I'm interested in film but my school only offers it in SL online. How does this online thing differ from regular SL studies? Is it even close?
  11. Heeeyy I just started my first week of DP 1, two days ago and I'm already doubting myself and I'm mentally stressed even though we haven't even done that much. Everything's just been a bit overwhelming. I have chosen the following HLs: Chem, Bio and English A Lit and SLs: Spanish, Math and Geography. I think what's giving me anxiety is Chemistry HL or just the idea of taking 2 sciences as HL. People are constantly telling me: "you're committing suicide" "You won't be able to get anything higher than a 5" "it's going to bring down your average". I think these comments are getting to my head, especially because my chemistry teacher is not the best teacher, so i'm also stressed that that will bring me down. I'm just hoping for a couple tips to help me get through the first term of DP1 Thank you
  12. Hey! I'm starting my IB1 year soon and I'm wondering which subjecs I should take. I absolutely suck at maths like no other and I don't particularly like sciences. With keeping this in mind, is SL bio impossible? I need to take at least one and I feel bio would be easiest for me because I have a relatively good memory and it's the least "sciencey" subject. Am I making the right choice? How hard is it?
  13. Does anyone have good ideas for the biology IA?
  14. Are there any word limit for the extract we use for our economics IA? is it alright if the extract I am using is pretty long? The IA examples I got had really short extracts.
  15. Can I choose one of the topics that have been already done for my IA?. I will do all myself so I will get different results.
  16. hey guys! I'm going into the IB program this year, and I have 4 HLs and 2 SLs. 2 of my 4 HLs are Bio and Physics. I recognize that this is going to a particularly rigorous course selection, so does anyone have any advice? Just so you know, my other courses are HL Psych, HL English, SL Math Year 2 (took year 1 in grade 10), and SL French.
  17. I am starting to do my Economics Internal assessment. I take Economics standard level. My batch is the first batch taking the economics IB exam! Any tips for a good Internal assessment? Which sections do you think I should do? What topics should I focus on? What do you think the checker would be looking for in my IA?
  18. Hey guys! I'm gonna write my exam for French SL next year and I would like to start preparing from now. I got an 84 in Grade 11 IB french last year, which isn't AMAZING but quite good since the course was quite difficult for everyone. I will aim for a high 6/7 next year, which I believe is attainable with hard work. If anyone can provide any advices or resources, they would be greatly appreciated!!
  19. Hey there! I was wondering about the course load of taking 4 higher levels as opposed to three. I want to double major in classics and creative writing with a minor in graphic design in uni, so I am planning (hoping) to get high enough scores that I can use them towards credits. My schedule would look like this: English HL, History HL, Biology HL, Drama HL Math SL, French SL. Does this seem like a feasible task? Thanks in advance!
  20. Hello, I'm in the process of choosing my IA question, I do biology standard level and was wondering if this topic fits in the syllabus for sl: What is the effect of soil moisture on the length of ribwort plantain leaves? Thank you
  21. Im taking Economics SL in IB because I took economics in my IGCSE, however, my batch is the first batch taking the Economics IB exam. What actually are the topics needed to be learnt for Standard level or SL? My teacher is unsure of it himself. please help!
  22. I take Music Sl and for my solo performance, I was thinking on playing, Liebestraume no.3 by Liszt, Prelude in C sharp minor by Rachmaninoff, Summertime by George Gershwin, Piano Sonata No.1 Mov.1 by Beethoven. Are they difficult enough and are they different enough since I heard that the IB wants diverse pieces.
  23. I need help choosing my IA topic. Honestly I am really lost right now and I don't know what nd how to do it. I have seen some examples and ideas but some seem way too simple and some seem way too hard. I want to do something on probability, but I think it would be way too simple to just do a probability problem. So i need help. How or where can I get ideas? And how do I know how to perform them (?)
  24. Hi, so I'm choosing my HLs in a couple of weeks and I'm stuck between whether I should do French B HL or English A Lit HL ?? So far I'm doing very well in French B SL, and pretty good in English HL. If I did french B HL I would really want a 7, and English HL I would be aiming for a 7 too, but a 6 would still be great! If you have any advice from personal experience on what's easier/more doable it would be so appreciated! The other two subjects I'm probably going to end up doing HL are economics and bio, but if for some reason any of those two are a mistake please also let me know!
  25. Hi, In the next school year I will be a pre-IB student, but we already have to choose paths of subjects which we would like to stretch. My goal is to study something connected with journalism; as far as I'm concerned the best way is to study Media and Communications in LSE. So therefore I am asking you if you could check if my subjects are properly chosen. HL English A lit HL Economics HL VA SL Maths SL Design Technology SL History The path which I'll probably choose is Economics, Design Technology and Visual Arts Also, is it possible to have either history and economics? Thank you
