    Music study guide

Hey everyone, I'm an 11. grade IB student with higher level subjects English, Bio, and Music. I really don't know how to study Bio and Music, because I came late to this school year, which is the reason why I've some gaps. Because of that, I've to catch up about 1.5 semesters on my own and I really don't know how to do it. Is someone here who has the same HL subjects and can recommend some study books or some useful tips? Thank you for every useful answer!
  2. As of right now I am still midway of MYP year 5 (which is the last year of MYP) and so for me, DP will still start next school year (summer of this year) but we did already choose our DP subjects. So as for my second language, I decided to choose French ab initio (which I have no prior knowledge on) and I kinda just wanted to start learning the language so I kinda get a head start and so it will make it a bit easier for me next year. Therefore, I just wanted to ask you guys how I should start studying French (e.g. do you recommend me to learn through language-learning platforms, through textbooks, videos, etc and if so, if you can, name specific resources). I actually had started using Duolingo recently (currently lvl 8 ) but I read from somewhere that its content is a bit irrelevant to the IB's syllabus. So what do you guys recommend me to do? Thanks in advance!
  3. I am in semester 2, year 1 of IB, what is a good daily study plan for someone aiming to get a 45/a good IB grade? Is it okay to focus on one subject per day or to divide them within each day? Can I know anyone's IB schedule?

    EE HELP

Hello, I'm half way through my first year in the DP and I'm still struggling to find an interesting topic for EE on English. I wanted to take a look at The Great Gatsby, The Yellow Wallpaper or The Lord of the Flies but my sister recommended me not to do so because these texts are studied throughout the years of IB and the markers would expect an exceptional outcome towards the essay; essentially making it a little difficult for me to ace. I'm currently reading about Burmese Days by George Orwell, it talks a lot about gender, race, culture, imperialism and etc. but I'm not too sure if I'll be sticking to this one. My only option now is to take a look at other novels that perhaps incorporate politics or feminism (I feel like they'll be easier to deal with???). So, I was hoping if you guys could give me some advice on the EE and some novels I could take a look at
  5. Hello everyone, I am currently in my first year and I am taking IB Economics HL. Four weeks in, I have identified that I would like to work hard and get a 7 in this class. The way my teacher is teaching the class is for us to take notes of what is being explained during class, and then to read the textbook section of the same material, taking notes on that as well. Due to this I have put a line down every page in my notebook, with the left side for class notes and the right side for textbook notes. This leads to one of my questions: Should I compile these two sections of notes on my computer into one piece (in note format [Evernote?]), make them into flashcards, or just leave them in my notebook as is for later revision? Also, do any of you have any other tips/advice for the course? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
  6. Hey everyone, Hope you're doing well whether you just started your IB or are already getting closer to your mock exams. I'm trying to find out about how students study and what resources they use. It would be great if you guys could fill out this survey. Shouldn't take more than 10 minutes. Its all anonymous. https://goo.gl/forms/avRQe0DEHksywyWi1 Thanks

    Advice for my classes?

Hello everyone, I am currently in my fifth week of IB Year 1 and I have gotten settled with my new teachers and classes. I have set a goal for myself to get at least 40 points in the IB, but I do know that it will be tough and will require the right mentality (I'm working on it!). So, I wanted to come here and ask if any of you more experienced IB students had some advice or helpful tips for any of my subjects: IB Math HL IB Physics HL IB Economics HL IB Computer Science SL IB German B SL IB English Language and Literature SL Any help (including general IB mentality/work-ethic as well) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
  9. Hello, I'm new to this whole website so I'm not really sure how it works here. But anyways, I've got a question: What's the best way to practice analysing, comparing and contrasting two texts? Recently I realised that I have this issue with me where I'm not able to think quickly or make sense when I write on paper (my sentences are always jumbled up, disorganised). I perform great with assessment tasks but writing is a bit of difficulty. Conventionally, I use my laptop to write the answers to the questions then transfer it to my paper, however I won't be allowed to do this during the actual exams, thus I'm quite nervous about my ability to perform an excellent result. So my only option is to start practicing from now, I want to be able to get used to it and hopefully improve by the end of next year, I just need some tips on improvement (maybe some past papers I can download to practice on them), so I was hoping if you guys could help me thanks!

    Self studying HL

Hello people, I know I will sound crazy/weird, but is it possible to self-study HL mathematics? My school does not teach the HL math, and so I am 'stuck' with SL. I really enjoy maths and I am quite pretty good at it. Also, I want to be a chemical engineer, so HL Chem, Phys, and Math are highly recommended. I am already doing HL Chem and Phys, which is satisfactory for most of the universities, but I really feel like I should also do HL Math. Thank you for your answers
  11. Does anyone recommend or actually websites or apps to study for their exams? Ive looked into free things such as quizlet but am not sure how useful they actually are. And does anyone use paid things such as kognity? The price is quiet steep and Id like to know if its actually worth paying the money or simply studying the oldschool way. Thanks

    Losing Enthusiasm

Hey guys, I'm currently entering my second month of IB2 and during the past month, I have been finding that I have gradually been working less harder, and losing the "First-year" Enthusiasm that I always start off with. This has caused me to increase procrastinating and ending my study sessions earlier. I have looked through the web regarding ways to motivate yourself but it all just says that I have to remember the outcomes and all that. Was wondering if you guys had any pointers to help me out here. Thanks! Side Note: I work every single day of the week, but take a semi-day off in Sunday (first day of my school week).
  13. Hi there, I am in IB Y2 currently and I have a major problem with my German class. During the first year I had a German teacher who never had done IB before, was about to retire, and didn't prepare many materials for the class. We ended up doing 3 out of the 5 core topics, but not writing down or learning really anything throughout the year, except a lot of talking about it. Fast forward to this year and a new German teacher, and she tells me I am supposed to be on a C1/C2 (advanced/native speaker) Level but telling me I am at a B1/B2 (intermediate/upper intermediate) level currently. Also, she commented I am grammatically at a A2 (lower intermediate) level. I basically need to redo the topics I did last year since I don't have any keywords or important reminders of the topics, learn the new topics this year, practice my grammar and vocabulary like crazy. I want to get atleast a 5 and prefrably a 6-7 range for HL German. So: Do you have some tips for me to succeed? What specifically do you think is the most important for the exams? Do you know any good study tips/tricks/habits? Any good apps to succeed with for German? Thanks fellow IB'ers!
  14. Hey I live in the Netherlands started DP1 this week and I was wondering if any European students that were also doing the IB wanted to create a study group. It would be cool if we took similar subjects so that we could help each other out, and I think it doesn't matter really were in Europe as the time is either the same or 1 or 2 hours difference Anyway if anyone is interested hmu. My IB classes are the following: Chemistry HL Biology HL English A Lit HL Geography SL Spanish SL Math SL

How to prepare for Math 1 SL test

I'm taking the IB Math Studies test this May, and I've been reading about different ways to prepare. A lot of people have said they practice using past exams. Where can I find the past exams for this course; is there a special website? Thank you.
  17. This is my first post on the forums, so I'm not too familiar with how its supposed to work, and if anyone will see this at all, but I was wondering what math skills I should focus on/study if I were to go into IB next year (im in grade eight). I'm thinking about preparing a bit in advance, and our school does have a summer school for preparation but my friend is in grade nine right now, and really struggling even after having taken the summer course (and she's a pretty good student too). If anyone could give me any math tips and study material, or just studying tips in general for next year, that would be great.

    Study scheduling

Hey guys, I'm about to start my IB journey in the upcoming week. In preparation, I have created a sort of study schedule for myself to use as a reference during the academic year. Below I have attached the schedule I have created. I have factored in my weak subjects and my strong subjects (Strong subjects get a little less revision time). Can you IB veterans please tell me about your study routines and schedules and tell me whether if my drafted schedule is overkill? That would be great, thanks in advance. Side note: I am probably going to change the schedule once i get a feel for the course after 1-2 months into the academic year Schedule V1.docx
  19. Hi! So I'm coming up to the end of year 10, and have gotten textbooks for IB. I would really like to study ahead in the holidays, especially for economics, a subject I have had no experience with. As I have had no experience, I have no idea how to start studying. The textbook I have is Economics for the IB Diploma, published by Cambridge. If anyone has any recommendations, tips or any experience at all related to this, please let me know!! Thank you
  20. Hi, does anybody know of any study/experiment that has been done to test how attribution and Placebo work together?

    Study for Spanish AB

I have Spanish AB exams in one month ( year 1 end of year). What is the best way I can prepare? My teacher didn't give me much to work with, she didn't actually do anything the whole year. I have picked up some grammar and vocab on my own but I know it's not enough. Any tips would be welcomed.

Biology SL - Exams in May

Hi guys, so basically I am going to take exams in May, but I am worried about Biology. Even though it is just SL, I still cannot find myself to like it whatsoever - I tried to watch videos online, visit webpages like BioNinja, where it is pretty simple, but I always found it too boring and either fell asleep or studied a different subject. I have English A HL LL, Czech A Literature and Geography HL. These are quite simple and I do not have to study for them much. Math Studies I basically revise, do past papers and use the questionbank. German B is also okay, and I find if fun actually. I somehow found myself to like all of these subjects, but Biology... I just hate it so much. Any tips? How did you study for the Bio exams? Please help Thank you!

    Geography HL

Hi, I am predicted a 7 in HL Geography, however I am quite worried about the fact that sometimes our teacher doesnt know what he is doing. I most of the time get full points for my essays and tests, however I am quite unsure about the exams. Could any of you please help me and tell me how to study for Geography course effectively? Sometimes I feel I study too many details, which are unused in my tests. Feedback will be appreciated. Thanks a lot.
  25. Hi! So....the problem with me is that I can never concentrate when there is any background noise while I am studying. Point is that I can't concentrate when there for instance are people talking while I am working with school work, both at class and at home. I need it to be totally quiet when I am working too, which leads to me almost never being able to study for exactly this reason. I was therefore wondering if any of you guys had any tips for me regarding this exact issue? Or if any of you could share exactly how you work when there are several distractions and you guys need to study? And no- for me neither music nor white noise works either when I am trying to study. Would appreciate any help
