  1. So my TOK teacher informed us that we're not permitted to submit the TOK presentation in a form of a video, only a PowerPoint presentation is accepted by the IB. I was a bit conflicted by this new information so I asked the librarian and he said that we're allowed, as long as we present ourselves throughout the video occasionally. And then for a confirmation, I inquired the IB Coordinator and she said we're not allowed to use a video as our final presentation. So should I follow what my IB Coordinator said or should I just do what's easier for me and make a video?
  2. Hello! I am currently working on my TOK essay and my title is "Disinterestedness is essential in the pursuit of knowledge.” Discuss this claim with reference to two areas of knowledge". "I'd like to ask whether I am allowed to work on more than two AOKs or it is a requirement to have just two? Thank you!
  3. How do you embed the knowledge framework in a TOK presentation? My KQ is: what role does language play in the acquisition of knowledge? The AOKs I am studying are the natural sciences, mathematics, and the human sciences. I already have links to personal and shared knowledge, and I explain how language is required for majority of the shared knowledge to be transmitted from one person to another. So what else should I include? My teacher said that my presentation will not score high marks because I have no links to the knowledge framework. Thanks!
  4. I don't know if the teacher is bad , if I naturally don't like TOK , or if it's just because I don't understand why we have to take this course..
  5. Hey guys, what are your thoughts on ManageBac? Do your schools use it? In my school I only used it for CAS, but my friend's school used it for everything in the IB but he said it was pretty annoying to use... Is it any good? Do schools use other programmes instead?
  6. I am preparing for a Tok presentation about assisted suicide. So basically I want people's opinion on whether this is a good question for my TOK: "Should we be allowed to have the right to choose our own death?" So is this a good knowledge question? I Appreciate it if anyone can assist me.
  7. I submitted 1200 words TOK essay four days later (Aug 28, 2018) after the deadline. This deadline is not the ib deadline but its what the teacher set. The teacher was okay with me submitting four days late because the majority of the students did not submitted on the deadline. However, today Aug 30, 2018, I decide to submit reworked TOK Essay, specifically changing the introduction, evidence used and 200 more words, then I uploaded to the candidate ib website. The teacher was not okay with me reworking on the essay and told me to submit the previous one, so he rejected my essay I uploaded on the candidate website. For me this is an unfair situation because I reworked hard and there are still students that not yet submit the essay for the school deadline. I think if there are students that are given extra time to work on the essay, I should also have the right to rework on it. The teacher told me that he will not give me extra time, and said that this was supposed be submitted a week ago. He also said "It tooks a week to check my essay" which he did not want to recheck my essay again. My question is am I possible to submit the essay that I reworked after the deadline passed? Do I have the right? Should I ask my teacher for allowing me submit the reworked essay?
  8. Also, no continual placement of knowledge questions throughout the essay, instead focusing on one knowledge question.
  9. This might seem like an extremely idiotic question, but I was wondering whether someone could give me a basic breakdown of what TOK is like? I just want to gauge whether this is a course I am going to pour hours of work into or is it a more laid back class than say..Ib Bio? As a disclaimer I know ANY IB class is rigorous, I just want to know the basic syllabus and workings of TOK. Thanks!
  10. So I'm still really confused about what exactly we have to do during TOK presentations and how we have to structure it, but one idea that I had was to explore different painting as my real life situation, or that one thing that happened where the two boys put a pair of glasses on the ground of an art gallery and everyone thought it was a piece of art. On e of the ideas I had to do for my KQ was: “To what extent do sense perception and emotion influence the value of art?" If this question good enough to explore to get a high grade? I have some stuff I could take about with it, but it doesn't sound as fancy as some of the ones I've been seeing online as really good. Any help is appreciated!! :)))
  11. I need help with my Tok essay. I chose question 1: The classification systems steer the acquisition of new knowledge. I need some arguments in favor. I do now that the classification is an essential tool for the study of knowledge.
  12. Hi guys, I am new to IB survival, hearing all these great things about the website, i decided to join. I wanted to ask help on improving my KQ,. My TOK is based on RKS as well. I am reading an RLS based on Kosher phones and how they have been accepted by religious people (ultra-orthodox). The KQ is have generated is: how does RKS influence one's understanding of knowledge Based on the given RLS, do you think that this is a good KQ or is there any way to further improve it. Thanks :)
  13. So, I have my final TOK Presentation this week and I was just wondering: what is the difference between a knowledge question and a knowledge issue? Or are they the same thing? My teacher never explained this to our class... 🙄
  14. Hi all, I just wanted to know how difficult it's going to be for me to study and succeed in IB. I'm currently studying in grade 10 and I'll most probably start studying according to IB's curriculum next year. I'm currently studying the Holt McDougal Modern Chemistry, English Literature/writing, Biology, and Phyiscs. The McGraw Hill Algebra 2 on top of social studies, Farsi literature/writing and Arabic. I find all of the subjects I'm studying relatively easy (except Farsi. Even though it's my mother language), and I aced all of my finals last term. But I'm kinda stressed to be studying IB as I have no idea about the difficulty level. The hl subjects that I'm gonna pick are biology, chemistry, Farsi and English (I have no idea whether it's gonna be A or B; it's mandatory to study Farsi and English hl at my school) I want to study medicine and I looked at dozens of university admission requirements for the said course; most of the universities I'm interested in require a minimum of 6 in bio hl and chem hl on top of an overall score of 38/45. As I said, I just want to know how much energy I'll need to exert on my studies and how difficult it'll be to meet the mentioned requirements. Your insight would be appreciated! Edit: Do I need to study physics as wrll to get into medicine? I'm already picking Math sl so not sure how that'll work.
  15. hey so our coordinator just told us to start our tok presentation in ib1 now, and I have no clue what to choose as a topic. My personal passion is design and technology, would be glad if you help me. Also if you could tell me how I should write and present it.
  16. Hello, My TOK teacher won't answer my desperate emails about whether my KQ or topic is any good. The presentation is in 10 days and I'm alone struggling so bad in understanding the presentation. My KQ "To what extent does emotion derived from photographs affect the way historical knowledge is perceived?", from the RLS photographs of Vietnam War which caused the American public to see the sadness of the war and protest against it. I am having a difficult time choosing AOKs and WOKs, but I thought finding a straight-forward wording for the topic would give me some guidance. So, I thought of "Effect of Emotion Evoking Photographs" for the topic, but is that clear? I could then figure out the knowledge claims in a format as such "How can we use historical knowledge and (WOK) to explore the effect of emotional photography?". Any help is greatly appreciated I have never been so lost and scared about an assignment!
  17. Hello Would someone be able to give me guidance if this a good TOK KQ: Should we trust international NGOs? Basically for my presentation, I'm interested in challenging the blind assumption that International NGOs are always doing good work (e.g. Amnesty International, Oxfam, Doctors Without Borders, etc.) Any guidance will be much appreciated!
  18. please someone answer me so i can decide whether or not i should spend 30 dollars investing in this website, is it worth it? is it a good website? or am i being scammed?
  19. Hi all, I'm currently doing a mock TOK presentation and I have gotten my main RLS and the RLS that I will link everything back to in the end. The AoKs that I am focusing on are Ethics and partially History. The WoKs that I chose are reason and emotion. Specifically, I am trying to focus on how ethical decisions can be justified by reason and emotion. I still need news example for the counterclaim and claim. I have two claims; The first being that reason is the most reliable justification for an ethical decision and the second being that emotion is not a reliable justification for ethical decisions. My two counterclaims are basically the opposite of the claims. These claims are derived from the main RLS of mine which is the revoking of the net neutrality law. These claims are then later further validated by my other RLS for the ending when we link back to the main RLS and another RLS that is different but relevant. This is what it currently looks like: RLS: Net neutrality law was removed Definitions: Ethical decision making and Emotion 1. Claim: Reasoning is the most reliable justification for an ethical decision Example: ? 2. Counterclaim: Example: ? 3. Claim: Emotion can cloud one’s ability to make ethical decisions Example: ? (Possible psychology study) 4. Counterclaim: Emotion strengthens the justification of ethical decisions Example: ? (Something about religion) Link back to original RLS and then link to China's strict omission of information both online and physically. I need help to find issues or news that are linked to this topic since I had only found two so far. I will appreciate any sort of recent publications that I could link back to my KQ. Any news or issue suggestions for Claims or counterclaims will be greatly appreciated. If I am at risk of being plagiarised, please tell me. Thank you in advance.
  20. Hi everyone! I would highly appreciate it if anyone would like to share their previously done TOK presentations from last year or later. This is the first year that my teacher is teaching TOK and our class kind of needs some presentation videos to see the proper way to present. We've currently seen around 4 videos and none of the presentations were from last year so they're all using the old format. Any recordings of any TOK presentations would really be helpful for our class to learn about making an A grade TOK presentation. I do hope to receive some good presentation videos that my class could see and learn from. Thank you in advance for anyone who sends a link to their presentation. - K
  21. I was awarded a C in TOK (16/30 - the grade boundary) for the Nov 17 session when I was predicted an A. This was a 10/10 on the oral, which was moderated to an 8/10 and a 4/10 on the essay. Having been predicted a high A on my essay, this was completely unexpected by me and my teacher. My Cat 1 EUR failed and when I asked for a Cat 2 EUR, there were no comments on my paper. I was wondering if anyone has been in similar situations where they received a mark that they honestly can't make sense of (in any subject), and how you went about coming to terms with the reality once you knew the mark was fixed. (That one mark was the difference between a 44 and a 45 and all the scholarships that go with it at my university, so I've been replaying all the ways I could have done things differently in my head). I would really appreciate any advice other IB alumni have in regard to how to move on from a frustrating IB mark. Thanks so much
  22. Okay, so my teacher expects me to know all of this just because I have had examples of my classmates, even though I was not here for the IB prep year (second in France). So can someone give me a way of making knowledge questions???

I was also wondering about the IA, and when you do it? Is it in your first year of IB or the second? Thank you so much!
