  1. Hi all, I just wanted to know how difficult it's going to be for me to study and succeed in IB. I'm currently studying in grade 10 and I'll most probably start studying according to IB's curriculum next year. I'm currently studying the Holt McDougal Modern Chemistry, English Literature/writing, Biology, and Phyiscs. The McGraw Hill Algebra 2 on top of social studies, Farsi literature/writing and Arabic. I find all of the subjects I'm studying relatively easy (except Farsi. Even though it's my mother language), and I aced all of my finals last term. But I'm kinda stressed to be studying IB as I have no idea about the difficulty level. The hl subjects that I'm gonna pick are biology, chemistry, Farsi and English (I have no idea whether it's gonna be A or B; it's mandatory to study Farsi and English hl at my school) I want to study medicine and I looked at dozens of university admission requirements for the said course; most of the universities I'm interested in require a minimum of 6 in bio hl and chem hl on top of an overall score of 38/45. As I said, I just want to know how much energy I'll need to exert on my studies and how difficult it'll be to meet the mentioned requirements. Your insight would be appreciated! Edit: Do I need to study physics as wrll to get into medicine? I'm already picking Math sl so not sure how that'll work.
  2. hey so our coordinator just told us to start our tok presentation in ib1 now, and I have no clue what to choose as a topic. My personal passion is design and technology, would be glad if you help me. Also if you could tell me how I should write and present it.
  3. Hello, My TOK teacher won't answer my desperate emails about whether my KQ or topic is any good. The presentation is in 10 days and I'm alone struggling so bad in understanding the presentation. My KQ "To what extent does emotion derived from photographs affect the way historical knowledge is perceived?", from the RLS photographs of Vietnam War which caused the American public to see the sadness of the war and protest against it. I am having a difficult time choosing AOKs and WOKs, but I thought finding a straight-forward wording for the topic would give me some guidance. So, I thought of "Effect of Emotion Evoking Photographs" for the topic, but is that clear? I could then figure out the knowledge claims in a format as such "How can we use historical knowledge and (WOK) to explore the effect of emotional photography?". Any help is greatly appreciated I have never been so lost and scared about an assignment!
  4. Hello Would someone be able to give me guidance if this a good TOK KQ: Should we trust international NGOs? Basically for my presentation, I'm interested in challenging the blind assumption that International NGOs are always doing good work (e.g. Amnesty International, Oxfam, Doctors Without Borders, etc.) Any guidance will be much appreciated!
  5. please someone answer me so i can decide whether or not i should spend 30 dollars investing in this website, is it worth it? is it a good website? or am i being scammed?
  6. Hi all, I'm currently doing a mock TOK presentation and I have gotten my main RLS and the RLS that I will link everything back to in the end. The AoKs that I am focusing on are Ethics and partially History. The WoKs that I chose are reason and emotion. Specifically, I am trying to focus on how ethical decisions can be justified by reason and emotion. I still need news example for the counterclaim and claim. I have two claims; The first being that reason is the most reliable justification for an ethical decision and the second being that emotion is not a reliable justification for ethical decisions. My two counterclaims are basically the opposite of the claims. These claims are derived from the main RLS of mine which is the revoking of the net neutrality law. These claims are then later further validated by my other RLS for the ending when we link back to the main RLS and another RLS that is different but relevant. This is what it currently looks like: RLS: Net neutrality law was removed Definitions: Ethical decision making and Emotion 1. Claim: Reasoning is the most reliable justification for an ethical decision Example: ? 2. Counterclaim: Example: ? 3. Claim: Emotion can cloud one’s ability to make ethical decisions Example: ? (Possible psychology study) 4. Counterclaim: Emotion strengthens the justification of ethical decisions Example: ? (Something about religion) Link back to original RLS and then link to China's strict omission of information both online and physically. I need help to find issues or news that are linked to this topic since I had only found two so far. I will appreciate any sort of recent publications that I could link back to my KQ. Any news or issue suggestions for Claims or counterclaims will be greatly appreciated. If I am at risk of being plagiarised, please tell me. Thank you in advance.
  7. Hi everyone! I would highly appreciate it if anyone would like to share their previously done TOK presentations from last year or later. This is the first year that my teacher is teaching TOK and our class kind of needs some presentation videos to see the proper way to present. We've currently seen around 4 videos and none of the presentations were from last year so they're all using the old format. Any recordings of any TOK presentations would really be helpful for our class to learn about making an A grade TOK presentation. I do hope to receive some good presentation videos that my class could see and learn from. Thank you in advance for anyone who sends a link to their presentation. - K
  8. I was awarded a C in TOK (16/30 - the grade boundary) for the Nov 17 session when I was predicted an A. This was a 10/10 on the oral, which was moderated to an 8/10 and a 4/10 on the essay. Having been predicted a high A on my essay, this was completely unexpected by me and my teacher. My Cat 1 EUR failed and when I asked for a Cat 2 EUR, there were no comments on my paper. I was wondering if anyone has been in similar situations where they received a mark that they honestly can't make sense of (in any subject), and how you went about coming to terms with the reality once you knew the mark was fixed. (That one mark was the difference between a 44 and a 45 and all the scholarships that go with it at my university, so I've been replaying all the ways I could have done things differently in my head). I would really appreciate any advice other IB alumni have in regard to how to move on from a frustrating IB mark. Thanks so much
  9. Okay, so my teacher expects me to know all of this just because I have had examples of my classmates, even though I was not here for the IB prep year (second in France). So can someone give me a way of making knowledge questions???

I'm taking: HL: English Lang and Lit A Chem Film SL: Maths Psychology Chinese B If anyone knows anything about these subjects please let me know about your experience! I was also wondering about the IA, and when you do it? Is it in your first year of IB or the second? Thank you so much!

  12. I'm doing my TOK presentation on Trump's decision to make Jerusalem the capital of Israel. I have a couple of KQ's but I'm not sure they entirely relate to the RLS, or if they incorporate every aspect I'm going to be talking about. One of them is: In what ways does authoritative decision affect values and beliefs of groups? Would this be fine? Do yu have any other suggestions?
  13. Hey guys, I'm just confused about something and would like to ask you for advice: How broad does the knowledge question(the main one) in the tok presentation have to be? The two tok teachers in my school have different opinions and I'm really puzzled. Thanks in advance.
  14. Hi guys. I just want to make sure whether this is a good knowledge question: "To what extent do ethics play a role in the justice system?". Is this a good KQ or should I change it to something else?
  15. Hey guys! In my TOK presentation, I am talking about how science advances and the ethical issues that come with that advancement. What can I state as a claim and counter claim [in terms of ethics and advance], when I talk about certain experiments that were undertaken in psychology to find more about how humans work? Such as the Milgram Experiment, and the blue eyes, brown eyes classroom experiment?
  16. Hey there, any of you out there would be able to enlighten us about bullfighting in Spain. You don't have to be Spanish though. Thankkssss
  17. Hi everyone! I'm Kathleen and I was wondering if anyone that has already done their exams has any TOK presentations with the TKPPD and score and comments that their teacher and the moderator gave. I am helping my teacher try to find more examples of TOK presentations closer to 2017 since the video that IB has are both from the same school and are from 2012. If anyone would like to share their files with me. I will send you my email. If you wish to keep your name anonymous, you can send it without your name in the TKPPD. I hope to hear from someone soon

  19. Hey guys, I'm reviewing my presentation against the assessment rubric and stumbled upon this. "the knowledge question is effectively explored in the context of the RLS" does this mean that I have to refer back to my RLS, after making every claim, or something else?? Any answers would be appreciated.
  20. Hey guys, I have my TOK Presentation on Monday. My KQ was "How can we justify aggression in society?" Aggression in society is too narrow a term. I need help in modifying it. I modified it to "How can we justify emotional responses?" What can be my claims and counterclaims? I already have one claim and counterclaim sorted Kind Regards, Aryan

  24. Hi! I'm a second year IB student and my TOK presentation is in barely a month. I did already do my practice run and my teachers liked it but right now, they're not very encouraging and helpful and my teacher is too scary to try ask questions to ANYWAY! So my TOK presentation topic is "What role do logic and emotions play in the creation of attraction to others?" and it's a pretty cool topic and I have a lot to say but I've got an issue. All I am saying for my first AOK (Psychology) is from one site only, it has really good points and examples and I paraphrased everything but the ideas are basically the same. What should I do? Should I research for other examples? Do I need more than a certain amount of sites? Will I be penalised for plagiarism if I only use that site's ideas? I probably will... PLEASE HELP ME!!
  25. Hello Everybody, I'm struggling in coming up with a claim for my TOK presentation and so thought I could reach out for some help after hours of wordsmithing similar ideas. Could somebody please provide me with their opinion on the tentative claim I have. RLS - Recent Artificial Intelligence has similar thought processes and reasoning to that of a human and so critical thinking is done by the AI. KQ - To what extent does the lack of information encourage critical thinking? Claim 1 : With the presence of limited knowledge, one's curiosity will be challenged thus encourage critical thinking to a greater extent. Thanks,
