  1. Hello, Right now we are working on creating our final TOK presentations and I am very stuck.. For my last presentation I talked a lot about ethics and how that can effect our judgement, I have done my presentations around ethics and emotion and I feel that I'm pretty strong in that AOK and WOK.. My starter KQ: How can a lack of knowledge justify unethical conduct? What can I fix and why? What kind of RLS can I use for this type of question? Thank you.
  2. I want to write a TOK presentation question about Human Error. I had something along the lines of: To what extent can human errors negate the theoretical backing of the natural sciences. My RLS was the Jeju-Daegu air korea plane crash - where the crew were negligent and forgot to read all 12 steps of the safety procedure plan - resulting in a crew miscommunication leading to the crash. What are some other questions related to human error? Is the scope of my TOK presentation a realistic one?
  3. How many WOKs and AOKs should you include in the TOK presentation?
  4. I got my TOK presentation coming up and im stuck at the planning. So my question is that do I really need to include any WOKs in my presentation. I have used a couple of AOKs (and have explored a few more to show how conclusion fits to other RLSs). But I cannot seem to fit any WOKs in because my persepctives do not direct me to any. So can I just explore the different perspectives from different AOKs only. Or do I have to have WOKs also??
  5. Dear IB Survival, I'd like to do a TOK presentation about the Torture at Abu Ghraib and I'm trying to find an overall knowledge claim to fit with it. I want to focus on who is to blame, where does the responsibility lie when no one said anything? It's based on the bystander effect and the human sciences in general. I have no clue how to structure this as a knowledge claim... please help
  6. Hi, “In gaining knowledge, each area of knowledge uses a network of ways of knowing.†Discuss this statement with reference to two areas of knowledge. What do you guys think about title 1? By reading the question I understand that it's asking you to explain the idea of how the WOK's link together to help you understand the knowledge in the AOK. I am finding it difficult to find arguments that oppose this idea and disagree on it.. do you have any idea, perspectives, opinions, whatever.... any help is appreciated!!
  7. Hey guys! We are asssigned an essay for the winter break and my selected question is "Should we delete bad memories?" This is my first time writing an essay for my ToK class, so any help would be really appreciated. And my main concern is that can we use movies as real life examples?? For exampe can I use the movie "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" as a source to point out that issue as if it was a real life example? And do you have any tips for writing TOK essays at all? I do very badly on my essays normally, and when it comes to TOK I don't even know how to write an essay in TOK structure. Any help would be really appreciated. Thank you guys!
  8. I need help with my introduction... I chose the second prescribed title : “There are only two ways in which humankind can produce knowledge: through passive observation or through active experiment.†To what extent do you agree with this statement? For what I have in my intro so far doesn't really specify specific areas of knowledge, because honestly I could talk about all of them. I'm not sure if I should... So the question is: should I pick a few specific AOKs to talk about or can I not specify/do a lot? THANK YOU SO Much guys!!
  9. Hey guys, I have a practice TOK presentation coming up and I thought maybe someone could help me identify the weaknesses (if any) with my initial KQ? How can emotion and reason limit/affect our portrayal of taboo themes in society? Thanks guys!

This is the script for my mock tok presentation entitled ethical responsibility. I got 8/10 and my teacher suggested to improve i should include more cultural perspectives. Hope its useful
  11. I'm starting to do my TOK presentation on the extent of the SAT being an accurate predictor of success in college/university. My knowledge issues are: 1. How does one test for knowledge? 2. To what extent can one use knowledge of the past to predict the future? Are these KIs okay? How do I incorpoate WOKs and AOKs? For the first KI I was thinking of focusing on the AOKs mathematics and the arts, since these are areas that the SAT tests for. But I have no idea how to incorporate WOKs here. For the second question, I was planning on focusing on the human sciences and citing perhaps a psychological study...but I can't seem to find one anywhere. Again, here I don't know how to incorporate WOKs either. Basically I'm very lost right now, as my teacher is very new to IB TOK (this is his first year and he was only notified that he was teaching this class two weeks before school started.) We've only really started touching TOK presentations in the last couple of weeks . I would really appreciate any help at all. Thank you.
  12. Hi, guys can someone help to find an example where when you use one WoK you gain a different knowledge than if you use another WoK? ty anyway
  13. The Theory of Knowledge course is soon to be updated to include Faith as a fifth Way of Knowing, I have heard. I think this may have been one of the May 2013 essay titles, but apparently the IB are including it (heard from a teacher at my school who is a ToK teacher and examiner, and my old philosophy teacher) I was wondering what others thought of it. In my opinion, it is a stupid idea. The whole point of Faith is that it is not Knowledge, but a blind belief and devotion towards something without actually having proof or certainty of it (eg God) whereas knowledge is meant to be defined as something known to be true based on evidence. How can faith be a Way of 'KNOWING' if it is the concept of believing without proof or knowledge of the thing? It is also reminiscent of emotion to me, which it bears striking resemblances towards as an existing WoK. ToK purposefully avoids religious debate and the topic is closed due to how biased it is and it is not advisable to discuss religion in ToK essays due to the emphasis on consideration and knowledge. Now everyone will need to discuss Faith as one of the Ways of Knowing and how can this be done without appearing 'one sided' or 'close minded' to an examiner which may well disagree with you?
  14. Hello, IBS. My essay title has to deal with theories and truth. How do you think that i should direct it? Are the natural sciencies and history good AOK to consider for the essay? How do you think that i can relate it to WOK? Could it be, that we perceive something with our senses and then we starting theorizing about it? Thank you!
  15. Do you have to define every single AOK & WOK you mention in your essay?
  16. Greetings! Currently struggling with tok question 9 ”As an IB student, how has your learning of literature and science contributed to your understanding of individuals and societies?” I find tok extremely hard and have some questions. What ways of knowing do we have in psychology? Language? The information is gained through reading about theories and reports from experiments etc. Perception? Psychologists observe and interpret the behaviour generated. Any other? What about literature? The same wok's? Since we also read and perceive? PS: I have never made a topic before. Please be nice, heheh Thanks!
