  1. Hi guys, I'm doing my written task 2 on persepolis and im doing question 1.. any tips?
  2. Hi! I am to find a research question and topic for my Written Task 2 on Part 1 - Language in a Cultural context. I have no idea what to write it on. We've read Persepolis, A Doll's House and Pygmalion so far. My favorite books are Perks of Being a Wallflower, Fault in Our Stars, Wonder, etc... I've considered: "To what extent does society exclude women of lower class from their individual freedom in Pygmalion?"; yet not sure whether or not I will be able to write 800-1000 words on this Any ideas?
  3. Hey guys, I'm doing my Written Task 2 on The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien and I have decided to write about the question" Which social groups are marginalized, excluded or silenced within the text?" I've done my outline and I'm planning to write about the lack of Veitnamese Presence in the collection, but what I'm stuck on is how to structure the whole essay. Can anyone please help me out? Thanks!!
  4. Hi! My English teacher is very good, but she apparently got a little messed up with the IB guides. The guide explains that the WT2 is a critical essay in response to a book covered in the syllabus. My options are pretty limited, as I find our entire syllabus boring as hell, it's all about black people, colonialism, and african culture. Besides, our books are very odd and inaccessible to read, such as Jane Eyre and Wide Sargasso Sea. My teacher said that if I don't feel enormously enthusiastic about any of these, I could pick a book of my own that I felt could help me to explain colonialism and imperialism. I love The Time Machine, and so I am already halfway my essay, and the first draft is fue this Friday. Then started to creep me the fear that the IB could penalize me for using a book not covered in class. My doesn't have the slightest doubt that this is possible, but there is nothing specifically referring this alternative in the guide. If crap goes wrong, who's going to be liable for not doing as stated in the guide?
  5. The six prescribed questions for WT2 are: How could the text be read and interpreted differently by two different readers? If the text had been written in a different time or place or language or for a different audience, how and why might it differ? How and why is a social group represented in a particular way? Which social groups are marginalized, excluded or silenced within the text? How does the text conform to, or deviate from, the conventions of a particular genre, and for what purpose? How has the text borrowed from other texts, and with what effects? The texts we focused on are Seamus Heany's Poetry Collection, The Great Gatsby and A View From the Bridge. I was thinking of adressing questions 1 and 2 and focusing on how either the wealthy or working class are portrayed. Any further suggestions
  6. Hi I'm writing my first practice written task two and my teacher hasn't really given me much guidance and it's due next week!!!! How exactly do I go about formatting this task as well as how do I incorporate aspects of the text in it.... Studying: A streetcar named desire Question: Which social groups are marginalised, excluded or silenced within the text? I understand the question I just don't really know how I would answer it in an essay format...
  7. I am going to write a Written Task type 2 on part 4 of the Language and Literature IB. It is going to be about the lyrical ballads by William Wordsworth, with the following question: How could the text be read and interpreted differently by two different readers? I am thinking about comparing the interpretation of a person in 2014 to someone in the industrial revolution. I just don't know if I have to pick one of the lyrical ballads, and then which one. And I also have difficulties creating a thesis for this question. I tried to find some other written tasks with the same question, but they don't seem to have a one sentence thesis... Please help me
  8. Hello! I have two questions: Should citations be included in my WT2? We do not have to do covers for WT1 & WT2 like for IAs? Just what is said to be in the outline and the form that the teacher will provide, right? Thanks in advance! Cheers!
  9. Hello! I am going to write my first written task 2 very soon and was hoping I could get some advice. I have decided to write about Purple Hibiscus by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, which is one of the works we have studied and the one I liked the most. I am thinking about doing question 3) How and why is a social group represented in a particular way? Here I could discuss how the social group of Kambili (the main character), which is rich and catholic, compares to the social group of her Grandfather and Aunt, which is more focused on the old Gods of Nigeria and are not very rich. Do you think this is a good idea? Am I on the right track?
  10. Can anyone please give me some pointers on what exactly is to be done for the Outline of the Written Task 2? I'm so lost and I don't know what to do, is it similar to the Rationale for Written Task 1? Thanks in advance!
  11. Hey, So we've been asked to come up with our outline for our Written Task 2 over here, and I have no problem with that. My problem is I still don't have a topic! I'm completely lost in terms of formulating the question and what the guidelines are. Help please? The texts we've read are: 1. The River Between by Ngugi wa Thiong'o 2. Assorted poems by Nissim Ezekiel 3. Rasselas Prince of Abyssinia by Samuel Johnson. Please help, and thank you in advance!
