  1. Hey all, just hoping to get some help regarding my extended essay topic. I'm currently doing my extended essay research question on To What Extent Did the American Red Cross Impact World War One Europe? I've been ok-ed by my teachers for this topic and have been chugging along. I just got my hands on the extended essay guide course companion book and read through some parts, and looked around online for additional information. My problem is I'm starting to think my topic can't really be looked at from other angles. All my research blatantly shows they had a large impact, how would I argue against that or view it from another angle? I was thinking about maybe writing something about how they compared to other humanitarian aid organizations in that area, maybe find some information on how they did stacked up to others? I'm really not sure so I'm hoping some smart people here can give me some guidance. If possible I'd rather not overhaul my EE topic to something super different as I've already sunk 10 hours into this, and don't want it to be for nothing. Thanks!
  2. What is the definition of ``Collective Mistake`` in WW1? And what are good books to understand easily about WW1?
  3. Hello, I need some help trying to think of some Japanese history that relates to World War 1, World War 2, or The Cold War. I was thinking of writing about the internment of the Japanese but I think that it would be too much on the psychological/moral aspect rather than history, (My question was "To what extent was the Japanese internment a violation of human rights?") If you have any ideas on what would interest me, let me know. Thank you so, so much!
  4. Hey, so I'm in Pre-IB and we have our HI due soon. My topic is "How were women of Canada affected by WW1?". Do you think this is a good topic that I can get a lot of information on? Or has anyone here something similar and have any information that might be useful? And what are some tips for writing this HI? Thanks
  5. Guys, I was practicing the answer to the classical question of the causes that led to the outbreak of WW1 (examine the role of colonialism rivalry that led to the outbreak of WW1), and lacked some specific examples of historians from each current (revisionist, marxist, and those who blame the politicians and ministers for incompetence). The historiography only includes historians, right? We cannot include, for example, Lenin or Lloyd George? My teacher didn't really develop this and I am essentially for the first time looking at this to answer questions in History. Could you help me out in explaining how I can use historiography to achieve top marks in my essays, and give me specific details of historians who defend revisionism, marxism (communism), the blame to politicians and many other currents you find important to develop? Grateful, Richard

    Math SL IA

I am in need of serious help. Okay so I am editing my IA for a final copy, it is due very soon. My topic is on aerodynamics and my question is "Does an increase in number of blades affect thrust of a propeller?". Now I have found a way to calculate it, though it was very difficult and I feel like its wrong. I am doubting that the data I used was wrong, because I used the measurements from an old aircraft online. Do I need to use a simulation instead to show my personal engagement??
  7. Hello! Im writing my extended essay about the effects of soldiers of ww1. Back in my first IB year I remember my history teacher talking about how nationalism faded during the war because of the fact that the soldiers were tired of the traumatic experiences. Im experiencing some problems regarding finding information or literature so that I can fact base this before writing about it! Do you have anything to recommend as a source?

  10. In what way and to what extent did nationalism contribute to the outbreak of WW1 ?
  11. I'm writing up an essay for class where the title is "Why did a general European War break out in 1914?" My thesis statement is as follows : During the time prior to August 1914, a build up of tensions between the European power blocs eventually led to the outbreak of a total war. It can be argued that events such as the July Crisis, unrest in the Balkans as well as mobilization directly led to these already present tensions resulting in war. I'm really not sure if I've approached the question correctly in terms of whether I should focus on the long-term or short-term causes so so any help would be great.
  12. Hi guys, so I'm doing my IA on development of warfare in WW1 (specifically the question “What influence did the new technology have on the fighting on the Western Front?â€) and even though I think I have a bunch of good books I would really appreciate if you have some more tips for the bibliography/sources section that I could include? Thank you! - J.

This an average essay for my History SL classes. I got 14/20 for it which would be a 7 on Paper 1 but I'm not sure what the grade would be on an average essay, I guess a 5... I live in Poland where we have a different grading system so I got a 4- out of 6. I have written it by hand so I will also try to put my essay with teacher's suggestions, there are plenty of them and they are quite helpful. As my history teacher suggested the "Wordcount" written at the bottom isn't neccessary because it does not contribute anything to writing an essay but I don't remember other mistakes. Anyway, good luck and sorry for my grammar and spelling errors. English is my third language so yeah...

Militarism as a cause of WW1 is evaluated
  15. Hello! I have recently reviewed WW1. However, I am unsure how the Balkan wars affected the causes of WW1. I feel like I have an elementary grasp on the causes of WW1. Does anyone have any specific points I should mention in the papers? Additionally, who are good WW1 Historians to mention with quotes? Thank you!

An essay on the causes of WW1. Received a low 5 (9/20)
  19. Version 1

This essay is about the causes of world war one. It is a good example if you are looking how to correctly use historiography, as well as coming up with arguments for essays that are not orthodox. My feeling with these history exams is that if you interest the examiner, they will respond better to your essay. This essay received full marks.
  20. Hey guys, I am doing my Extended Essay in History. My topic is the causes of World War I and my research question is: "To what extent was the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand a cause or catalyst of World War I?" So far I have done approx 3,000 words. This is what I have done so far: Introduction: Introduction to why this topic is significant (World War I being such a dramatic event in the 20th century) and some background info on the Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. I have also written about the key terms in my research question such as the definitons of cause and catalyst. This section is approx 620 words Investigation: I have split this up to into 2 parts, firstly "The assassination caused Austria-Hungary to attack Serbia" and "The assassination was a catalyst for World War I". In the cause part, I have written about the desire for Serbia to break free and create their own "Yugolslavia" as well as the Balkan wars as one of the main reasons that Austria-Hungary decided to attack Serbia. In the catalyst part, I have written how the assassination was merely a trigger for the war and therefore cannot be regarded as the sole cause of World War I. I have discussed the other major causes of World War I which includes alliances, militarism and nationalism. I have included some historiography about the alliance system and how Germany's aims were seen as a main cause of World War I. This section is approx 2,000 words Conclusion: Restatement of the research question and what I have analyzed. My justification based on the sources. This section is approx 400 words. Any advice on how I am going? Am I on the right track so far and is there anything to improve on ? Is there anything else I should include or is there anything that I have mentioned that should not be there? Your help would be kindly appreciated.
