  1. Probably the most ironic thing to have happened to me was getting redpilled (referring to the new right or the alt-right) while attending the IB, mostly because it's against most of what the IB stands for. Being skeptical of globalism, political correctness, multi-culturalism and simply being nationalistic is something that would nearly destroy the purpose of the IB. Just a note, you will not understand any of this if you didn't follow politics in 2016 on at least a moderate level. My question is, how many of you in the IB share a similar story? Perhaps nobody on this Forum? That's still fine, but if there is someone, just so they know they're not the only ones. It's been the first time in forever that young people have primarily occupied right wing politics, and moreover care about their own countries, people, and culture. From this point on, we're going to play a bigger role in politics, especially since most of our concerns are being tackled right now. Marine Le Pen, Trump, and many other politicians, while only populist, are essentially fighting a similar battle. If anyone wants to have a discussion about immigration, racial relations, identity politics, racialism, gender, and much more, I am open to discussion. The new right and the reactosphere is not just another dumb, bigoted movement. It's a movement that uses facts and therefore attracts more intellectual-minded individuals. I am not saying I'm an intellectual by any means, but I have seen the movement catching these minds. We see and realize that there is no competition for ideas in our culture, education or politics when it comes to very crucial moral issues, and therefore we react and fight against that. Post-modernism is a big problem as well. However, just writing something as short as this is impossible to be able to describe everything, so it's more meant for those who identify with the new right. A clip from Jordan Peterson, a professor of Psychology at the University of Toronto talking about post-modernism: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YkmXwByGmjc

  4. hey everyone. I came up with an idea for my Math SL exploration but I would like to hear someone´s opinion on how to do it more complex. I have a youtube channel, so I thought that I could find if there is a correlation between video length and watch time by using data from my own videos. I believe that I can get a high mark on personal engagement because the results could really help me improve my channel. BUT, given that I take Math SL, I know that I have to do something MORE, so I have a few ideas, but I don´t know if they are good. So, youtube lets you see how many people watch your videos, and at what days and at what time. It tells you where the viewers are from, and their gender. It even tells you what are the main sources of traffic (clicking on a link in twitter or facebook, searching for the video in youtube, etc). So given all of this data, I feel that I could do something with it. I was thinking about probability. Maybe doing something like "what´s the probability of a woman watching my video in its full lenght at a sunday?", because my videos are targeted mostly at women and I upload on sundays. So I feel that these results could also help me and they would serve a purpose. What do you guys think about my idea??? Or do you have a different idea that could help me??

  6. Hey guys! I've seen YouTube videos of sample presentations, most of which are basically just screens of their presentations with their voice recorded. Is it possible to do this for the May 2016 batch? In my school everyone does it by standing in front of a projector and recording it themselves. Just curious as to whether we're allowed to just record the screen of our laptops using a software and talk over the presentation? Need a response ASAP as my presentation is due in 2 days, thanks!
  7. Hi, I was wondering if it is possible for us to make YouTube videos for CAS hours (I would obviously put this under Creativity if this was possible). The topic of these YouTube videos would likely be gaming, however, I would still have to collect footage and then edit it so that I can make the video presentable. I would assume that collecting and editing footage can be viewed as a creative activity, but what are your thoughts about this?

Math SL videos on Youtube - Mitch Campbell

(Updated Nov 28, 2014) Hi everyone. My name is Mitch Campbell, and I've been an IB Physics and Mathematics teacher (and examiner) since 2002. I've been working on a series of video tutorials designed to help you get through the Math SL syllabus. (I also have Physics SL/HL) in another thread. As a result, I have a few hundred videos I put up on youtube. Of the 6 topics from Math SL, I have 5 of them up! (I just put up the vectors videos today). Whenever I need to use a calculator, I use an emulator version of the TI 84, and I show you every step I use to calculate and solve. You can see the playlists I made here: Topic 1: Algebra (sequences and series, exponents, logarithms, binomial expansion) https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL6LH0ngwf3HsoathRzM31I7qiORkXbGPp Topic 2: Functions and equations (transformations, inverses, composite functions, quadratics) https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL74619D42AA989BCA Topic 3: Circular Functions and Trigonometry (right angle and non-right angle triangles, exact values of sin, cos, tan, graphs of sin, cos, tangent, and even included how to be a DJ) https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL6LH0ngwf3Hty1ogHmPvvGnV0Jqb5HMKR Topic 4: Vectors (component form, unit vector form, adding vectors, scalar product, angle between two vectors, vector equation of a line) https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL6LH0ngwf3HtbjnAD-w1G3Tj9cA20ihp9 Topic 6: Calculus (derivatives, integrals) https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL948121D1E0F7D6D4 I hope this helps you out! Cheers, Mitch
  10. Hi guys, A really good friend of mine is doing research on YouTube and I'd really love it if you guys could take 5 minutes to fill in the survey. It involves watching a couple videos too so it shouldn't be too bad! Also a chance of winning an Amazon voucher (and that's always good!). Survey is here!
  11. Hey guys, I recently found a two youtube channels (one Chemistry, the other one Physics) that you may have already heard of here on IBS and that hopefully can help you improve your marks. Chemistry: http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCnKyCBclmK1dqPj9r3iw5gA Mr Thornley (Chemistry videos) covers all SL&HL topics plus options A + D. He has multiple playlists (the videos cover the syllabus point by point). Most of the videos are quite short (no more than 3min I'd say). Physics/ Maths SL: http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCeScLgPpwj1jZnN045CcVOg Mr Campbell also does a great job with his videos (I believe) but sadly he doesn't have as many as Mr Thornley. Do you guys know any other youtube channels (or other websites)? I hope that at least some of you find these useful
  12. Recently, one of my more idiotic friends (to be specific, a friend of a friend) decided to spam the Google Docs survey I had set up for my IA. As a result, my data crashed and was completely wiped. :/ My topic is the correlation between viral video awareness and gender, so if you would please fill the survey out at this link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1gUYo7kGDhwCrlbJzCHMqK-uDnWqfmDA8AgHNDFZeRfs/viewform The more replies, the better. Please help - because of this, I've been set behind by a lot. Your participation is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
  13. Hello all! I'm Dani, an IB student studying at Colonel Gray High School in PEI, Canada. I've recently had an idea pop into my head that, if successful, I think could be really neat. I'm sure you guys have all seen collab channels on youtube where a different person does a video each day, and each week has a different topic of discussion. Well, I think it would be cool if we could get 5 or 7 (depending on whether people would want to give up their weekend) people from different parts of the world and create a collab channel that would focus on the different worldly perspectives. Basically, we'd just pick a topic each week, like pop culture, relationships, literature, what have you, and each talk about our different experiences with that topic. I understand that some schools have really strict CAS requirements and that perhaps this wouldn't fit into the syllabus, but even if you can't get it for CAS it would still be a really fun experience. And you don't have to be an IB student either: if any of you know of someone outside the IB that would be interested, give me a holla. Anyway, that's just something that I wanted to get out on the internet. Oh and also, if you are interested in this opportunity, please know that you have to be willing to except other's points of view and be openminded. I don't just want this to be an outlet for pent up IB frustration Anyway, if you're interested, just send me a message. Here's the Collab channel I got this idea from: http://www.youtube.com/sarcaschicks . We'd be like them, but with less profanity EDIT: Anyone who is seriously considering doing this collab channel, please email me at [email protected] Until we have a finalized group, we can't really start anything
