Easiest options for Chemistry HL paper 3?

My exam is approaching and we're starting the environmental chemistry option which I find it kind of easy, but as the times are too short, my teacher will give us the choice to study the option we want, so I was wondering which of the options for HL were the easiest ones?

It's really not a matter of which options are easiest as which to avoid: namely, Analytical Chemistry and Further Organic Chemistry. Stay away from those and you should be fine. I personally did Environmental Chemistry and Medicines and Drugs, and they were a breeze. I studied a little Food Chemistry as well, and that was rather easy too. Any two of those three should give you an easy time.

Medicines and Drugs is a good choice :P I did that one and even if the questions in the exam turned out to be kinda pretty hard (abnormally hard...), it was the only genuinely interesting part of the whole of Chemistry HL so all in all I'd recommend it.

Do NOT do Further Organic Chemistry. It will destroy you >8[ (Maybe not, but it's horrible).

Analytical chemistry was fun, but it took a while to really get it, so don't take it if you're short of time. Medicine and dugs is fairly easy and straightforward. What I heard from class mates, human biochemistry was pretty difficult as well.

Ah well, about the further organic chemistry thing, as everyone said, it's a bit confusing. But, if, and only if, you liked organic chemistry in the core, you should like this :P . The concepts are not hard, but you need to practice a lot. Plus there are certain things you need to actually memorise, like reaction conditions. Mechanisms will possibly annoy you, too!

Environmental chemistry is easy and interesting, especially the ozone depletion part XD . Questions in the exam are easy compared to other options.

I agree with what the others have said. Stay away from Organic, go for Meds and Drugs (which is quite fun as well). Industry/Technology might be easier if you have an IGCSE background, but I've heard environmental is the easiest in general.

i've heard analytical and environmental are the two easiest. lol more organic chem would be torture :S

but we haven't started options yet, still a long way to go :P

The thing is, nobody does XD

Am I actually the only one here who LIKES Further Organic? Out of all the topics, I find Organic Chemistry the easiest.

As for me, we're doing Further Organic and Chemistry in industry and technology.. :)

Nope you're not the only one..

I loved further organic. It's the best one if you're doing Chem HL! It just makes the HL organic chapter much more easier to see the trend of all the chemical reactions.

Take Biochemistry if you're also doing Biology as an IB course. It's basically the same stuff you learn in the first chapters.

Yup also the same things you learn in DNA chapter with the protein structures and all that. It's the same stuff, but you just have to see in a chemical way rather than a biological way.

Actually, my school decided to do human biochemistry and further organic chemistry. As I'm doing Biology as well, maybe human biochemistry isn't too bad. That's what was written earlier.

enviro is the shortest so it is the easiest in a way that it's all straight forward, and there's not a lot of material to remember! Industrial is the 2nd easiest. They're the two options we did, and I recommend doing them :P

What are your thoughts on option C: chemistry in industry and technology? We did human biochemistry but I sincerely found it extremely boring to learn. While I was going through option C though, I found it quite interesting (for instance there is a part on nanotechnology) and more into chemistry compared to human bio. Is it harder though?

well if you like it I doubt it will be :P I am not doing that option so i am not sure of the difficulty level..

We're doing biochemistry and drugs/medicine. I'm already taking HL Biology to biochemistry was a breeze...and drugs and medicine is really easy and honestly it wasn't all that "chemistry" intensive (no math, not much in the whole compound side of things aside from antacids and such). Those were only SL though last during HL1, haven't started topics for HL2 yet this year...

Is analytical very number based? I'd love that :P

Well my class is doing:-

1 - Environmental .... which is long but easy to grasp and in a way interesting

2 - Further Organic.... is a little complex... but short .. not soo bad!

Further Organic chem was such an interesting option. XD But I wouldn't recommend it if the core organic chem isn't really your thing. :P

Medicines/Drugs is probably the easiest option out there - lots of memorising though. The questions they ask are pretty predictable. I swear the "what is a weak analgesic?" has came up SOOO many times in the past (and probably will come up again in the future).

I agree with the posters above - if you take biology, the human biochemisry option is probably the most suitable one. Similarly - if you take physics then option C will be a lot easier.

My school was doing Environmental and med&drugs. But I hated environmental so I stayed with med&drug and also slef taught myself biochem and further organic. Dont know why I wanted to so so many options...... I started 2 weeks before my exam. (Today) :P

there is never really an easy topic for chem paper 3..

if you do biology, then biochemistry is nice, since it's mainly overlap from the biology course. (esp. the higher stuff)

if you do physics, then people prefer the analytical chemistry unit, or the industrial one.

if you're good at organic chemistry, then further organic is a nice one to study because it's a continuation.

so yeah, it's really dependent on what you like to study/what you have studied.

i personally do biochemistry and medicine and drugs.

After reading this, I'm worried. I've never been good at memorization, and our teacher decided that we would do both further organic and human biochem. I've already failed my further organic test (I've never failed a test/quiz ever and this was so difficult!) and honestly i wish that our class would have had more input on the teacher's decision.
