Mirandacadabra
Hi all,I'm starting IB this year, and was told in the spring of last year that I would have to do a CAS Project. The thing is, we were told we're not allowed to work with another organization. Are we expected to actually create our own charity from scratch? That's not a huge problem, I'm just kind of confused. Thanks! Reply

Sonneteer_Trombonist
I didn't have to do a CAS project, but I would say start thinking about stuff in any discipline that interests you or makes you passionate. Then maybe start thinking about any way you could involve yourself in that. If there are any organizations that relate to what you want to do, maybe you can research them a little to see how you can mimic them or how you want to be different.Good luck Reply

tenaciousdan
I'm making a short film for my creativity hours Reply
AGBellamy
Don't pay any attention to the guys saying that making a film is 'gay'. It's actually quite fun! But it requires a lot of work. I'm in my second IB year and making a movie with my best friend! It counts for all three:Creativity: Writing the script/choosing or writing the musicAction: Filming/directing/acting/holding auditionsService: It gives everyone something to put on their CV.If you do it well enough, it counts for up to 30 hours! Have a great time! 1 Reply

a.corn195
other than building planes or making a movie which both seem to take up a lot of time (which if are a serious IB student you have much of), another suggestion is sports. like i run track and i went to a track and field camp this summer and that counted for action hours and track meets count as action hours. anything thats not practice.. it has to be competive can count for action hours or if your on a sports team you can plan a fundraiser of some sort which could count for service or creativity. i hope this helps (: 1 Reply
sweetnsimple786
I'm making a short film for my creativity hours by the sounds of your display-name "tenaciousdan" seems like your making some sort of gay pornographic short film.better banging chicks than filming ****s. ooo internal rhyme beat that biatch.Totally agree with fratdude...making a film is pathetic...get a friggin life and do something productive..Guys, what the heck? When somebody asks for advice about a CAS project, why would you think this is a chance to try to act all tough and cool on the internet and get mad when it turns out people don't appreciate you being rude and idiotic? That was the clean version of what I'm thinking, just to let you know. We're here on this forum to get help, vent about life with others who have similar experiences, and give help to others. Insulting someone [and returning insults] spoils the atmosphere. It's a shame. To OP: I'm not sure. I don't think you need to do something as big as a charity event. Maybe do a fundraiser at school like hat/pajama day for a cause? Here are a LOT of activities people have done: 1 Reply
dessskris
a night marathon. so before you run, you collect sponsors from your juniors, students from the other grades and even teachers. say they sponsor you $1, so for every lap you run, they must pay $1. if you run 20 laps, they pay $20. its up to them how much they wld like to sponsor you. then the money you collect, you donate la. for charity. or build a school or library. thats what im doing in my school Reply
Wide Eyed Wanderer
All the area around my school is basically a construction site, so the labourer's children kind of just roll about in the sand and gravel all day. So for our CAS ( mostly service, some action) (since last September) we bring them into our building for a bit less than two hours every day and teach them how to read/ write and do basic maths. The DP students don't teach them every day though, only once/ twice a week ( teachers and school staff handles them the rest of the week). Other than maths and language, we kind of teach them their 'please' and 'thank you's and stuff like they shouldn't pick their noses in public, etc. In december, we had a concert in which both students from my school and the these kids performed together ( they had dance routines, a comedy play, poem recitation, etc).Other than that, we went and visited this orphanage near our school, so our next project is helping them organise their things. I'm planning to build a few more cupboards and figure out perhaps a more aesthetically pleasing way for them to dry their laundry- it's all over the place, or, in a huge pile in the middle of the courtyard. I was thinking we could make a large mural on one of their walls, but I'm not sure that would be accepted because it' not really something of utility. Our school's also looking to 'adopt' a village a few kilometres away from where we are ( I live in India, so there are plenty of villages around). So for that, we'll probably be building a school for them, or conducting lessons or something like that. For creativity, I'm part of a drama club and we have a production once every term. I'm also in charge of the school magazine, but my school has this weird way of considering some things 'duty' towards the school, so that may not be really counted as CAS for me. Even though I'm guessing it would be for other people? I'm a member of the student council at school, but that's not counted as CAS.For action, I've taken up football after school - I'm a noob at it but hey! I'm improving! JohnHangover
Hi!Me and my friends were thinking of doing a some kind of a short movie as our CAS-project.But CAS-project has to include at least to of the C, A and S. So we definitely get C from filming, writing, editing etc. But how could we get A and S out of making a movie? Reply

(running around, ect.), or if you wanted service, you could do a film about something important...like,ummmm...not polluting or something? Some of my friends did that for one of my CAS projects, we are doing free makeup/hair/nails for the graduating class' prom Reply
