SerbianGangster
Not at all! Actually our tok classes have a very relaxed atmosphere. We sit around in bean bags and have some pretty cool discussions. We also read from texts that are really interesting and voice our views about them. PLus, the teacher is just really cool! We were studying the unit on language and she got us the board game Taboo and we just played the whole time! Our T.O.K teacher last year (junior I.B.) was amazing and fun. We had heated debates in class and read a bunch of philosophical works and discussed them. (ie. Sophie's World, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance.) It was really to get an A in the class because you just had to participate and there was barely any homework. Yay for TOK Reply
Negin
So TOK lessons are like war...in my TOK classes anyway So how does your TOK lessons looks like?My classes are war, too. We're always arguing in really loud voices over the smallest subjects - and yet the conclusion is always that we can't be sure about anything, and that there's no wrong answer. SharkSpider
Yeah, my classes were like that, except that we asked questions that could be answered, and we debated on them until one side had an obvious superiority. It made being one of the two or three authoritarian right students a rather interesting experience, until the teacher realized the overwhelming majority issues and stopped the questions on wellfare and socialism in favor of questions about ethics and metaphysics. Either way, there was no questiont that wouldn't incite at least two people to get in to a heated argument about. Reply
Aether
My classes are completely lame. Nobody gives out their opinion unless the teacher asks them personally. However, they should not be as bad a war field, because according to me, ToK is not for trying to convince, it is trying to see a certain topic, or question with your "glasses", but most importantly, to consider how it will look with different "glasses". Stina
Mine TOK experience haven't been so good. My teacher is an old man who really likes to hear his own voice. When he is explaining something he never get to the point..It's really annoying because he always end the sentence with " and REMEMBER" and then he just goes on with something else... when my class is having TOK it is like a warfare anyone is speaking and doesn't listen to others opinion.. we discuss everything except TOK it can be from politics to what football team is the best..It is just pathetic!! So I hope the lesson soon will be more fun and more interessting.. the whole class is like " oh no, we have TOK today!!" Reply
Oryxy
This year I changed to another TOK class. This teacher is so cool and fun, talks pertinent things in class and also marks fairly kind. I sure look forward to go to his class every day. cranberry_isle
Our class is... interesting. Our teacher is smart and has interesting stories... but, it drives me crazy that he always assumes he's right. And he has that aura where you just CAN'T argue with him. Also, his favorite question is 'do you believe in God' 'why?' and then proceeds to tell you all about why your religion is wrong. It's interesting, and it's not that he's trying to discourage your beliefs, he does it to the people that share his religion too. He just wants to make sure you know what you're believing. That's been the topic of conversation for about six classes so far. And we're just NOW starting to learna bout world religions when we get back... So it's never war, because you can only attempt to argue with him. And you'll NEVER win. Reply
