Psychology EE

Hey everyone,

I'm doing my extended essay on how the sociocultural level of analysis affects a teenage suffering from teenage depression. I am however a bit confused on how to go about the research and what really is meant to be in the essay. The school isn't providing us with much information, and I am in a total fix. If anyone could help me out, as in knowing how to go about it, I would appreciate it a lot.

Thanks!

:)

I reckon you should just start out with looking some websites up and perhaps if you have the time you can arrange to talk to a counsellor/psychologist. They might have usefull info and resources to help. Pretty interesting topic, if you want irl info I am glad to help, suffered from depression and researched quite a bit (:

Also you can look at TWLOHA and any other organizations that are specialised in teen depression.

hope it helps a bit.

Hey, the way in which I went about my research for my psychology EE was to first find some background information from available textbooks and other material at my school, and then I went to the local university library to find more in depth material. If possible it would be a good idea for you to do the same i.e. go to your local university and try to find psychological journal articles and books on the matter. In my case perhaps the most fruitful source of information was perhaps Google scholar, which allows you to search for scientific journal articles and other sources available on the internet.

E.g. I tried the following search for you:

http://scholar.google.com/scholar?q=sociocultural+factors+in+teenage+depression&hl=en&btnG=Search&as_sdt=1%2C5&as_sdtp=on

the keywords being: sociocultural, factors, in, teenage, depression. You probably need to fine tune the keywords to find exactly what you want with your research question. Some of the material is stuff that costs money to view, but it's often possible to at least read the abstract to see if it's useful in your case and then either find a copy of the given issue of the given journal physically from some local source or electronically somewhere on the internet. For example, the following article published in the journal of abnormal child psychology seems useful in your case (came up on the google scholar search page), but it costs to view in full: http://www.springerlink.com/content/u035144401927782/

Hope it helped

Thank you so much! When I go further with my research I will definitely ask for more help from you. In fact, I met a therapist today and she provided me with a lot of resources. But thank you(:
