The Great Purge is considered to be a successful policy because Stalin succeeded in eliminating his opponents (Old Bolsheviks associated with Lenin, Stalin’s ex-associates – Zinoviev and Kamenev and some other people from the party’s high positions). After the purge there were almost no opposition groups, at least no apparent and powerful ones.
