Clark Kent
Hi. I'm writing my English A1 Extended Essay on Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy. I was just concerned about the degree to which I should incorporate secondary sources (i.e. critical articles, books on the topic, etc.) and even other books by the same author. I find that there is no much evidence for my research question, to do with Pullman's presentation of religion, in Pullman's other works. I'm concerned that if I don't have a large degree of secondary sources I won't be able to score an A. I use like 3 books by Pullman critics, as well as the Bible. Is this sufficient? Thanks! Proletariat
I used no secondary sources in my English EE. Many EEs in that subject only cite the work(s) that are analyzed. Obviously if you were to reference other work in your EE, you would include that on your list of works cited; it seems like that's what you're doing with the Bible, for example. Based on your text choice, I would recommend trying to find maybe one or two scholarly articles, if they do exist, simply because works marketed as "teen fiction" sometimes raises the eyebrows of the marker, despite how Pullman is obviously not Meyer. Bribe your way into those university databases! 1 Reply
