Question on Atomic Spectra

Recommended Posts

Guest HeartLocker

Hey guys I was wondering if you could help me by discussing two different ways in which atomic spectra can be used to deduce physical data for stars.

Hum..

Okay the first way is by Doppler Shift, red shift or blue shift. You should give information of speed relative to earth or give information as to rotational speed.

The second way is by intensity-wavelength distribution, you should give information on surface temperature. Atomic Spextra can also be used to deduce physical data for stars based on their stellar magnetic fields and through splitting of emission spectrum lines.

I think there is an additional way of doing this by line absorption spectra. This time you should give information on composition of the outer layers of stars.

There you go.
