Cierlmeyrin Posted September 29, 2011 Report Share Posted September 29, 2011 Van Gogh painted the People Paintings “At Eternity's Gate”, also known as “On the Threshold of Eternity” in 1890 while staying in Saint-Rémy de Provence. It was painted based on his own lithograph from 1882. Building Paintings It depicts a man, seemingly in anguish, burying his face in his hands. As Van Gogh was himself fighting his own inner demons at this time, there is some speculation that this could be reflecting the artist's mindset at the time.Oil Paintings for sale It should also be noted that Van Gogh due to his treatment at the hospital in Saint-Remy did not have access to a wide variety of subject matter. Famous Paintings This in turn led him to recycle old motives as well as interpreting the subjects of other artists, notably Millet such as in The Sower and Noon – Rest After Work. Children PaintingsThis shortage of subjects could have led him to also reinterpret his own old lithograph.
