Van Gogh painted the People Paintings “At Eternity's Gate”, also known as “On the Threshold of Eternity” in 1890 while staying in Saint-Rémy de Provence. It was painted based on his own lithograph from 1882. Building Paintings It depicts a man, seemingly in anguish, burying his face in his hands. As Van Gogh was himself fighting his own inner demons at this time, there is some speculation that this could be reflecting the artist's mindset at the time.
