zuckerpuppe
Hey I am writing my EE in Chemistry. I will investigate the effect of soft drinks on teeth on a chemical level, so basically the effect of H+ ions on tooth enamel, which consists of hydroxyapatite. H+ ions should react with hydroxyapatite to form phosphate ions. My research question is: How does the H30+ ion concentration of soft drink affect the PO4^(3-) ion production while reacting with hydroxyapatite from milk teeth over 48 hours at body temperature? Do you think my research question is focused enough? And what do you think of my investigation in general? Reply
Emmi
Although I didn't do my EE in chemistry this seems really interesting and doable. Just one question - do you have a plan for testing it? And are you doing just one particular brand of soft drink or are you comparing different brands? zuckerpuppe
Well we have an measuring advice for phosphate ions at school and I want to measure the weight of the teeth and the pH value. Then it should be pretty easy to do some simple calculations in relation to acid-base reactions. I want to compare different brands and drinks (Coke, Ice Tea and juice). Maciek Kansy
I scored A in my chemistry EE, how the hell will you get so much teeth? Ill need so many of them, i think... u have a younger sibling or something? To the topic, i think your research question is focused enough. good luck~! The Filipino Limner
This seems like a very good topic! Is it true that Sprite is better for your teeth than Coke? ) haha. You may want to investigate that too! Reply
