Keel
Before you jump into specifics about gay marriages and authority take a step back and generalise what you are asking. You are questioning the role of authority in making ethical decisions. Now this could be applied to a whole load of scenarios, the role of law in society, the disciplinary master in a school, a parent in guiding a child ect. I would advise that you first explore how ethical decisions are reached i.e. the methodology applied in ethics. Having done this, explain why people in authority have such powers to make ethical decisions in the first place i.e why are they more qualified than say a fifteen year old? (Are they more experienced, mature or rational?) Exploring the question ‘What is the consequence of having people in authoriy make ALL ethical decisions?’ would be a nice way to end the presentation; explore both pros and cons.
