timtamboy63
Read item 4 under General in Conduct of the Examinations. general stationery (for example, pens, pencils, eraser, ruler) but correcting fluid/tape, highlighter and gel pens are not permittedI'm seriously surprised, as highlighters are usually pretty essential, especially in exams!Opinions? And is your school following this? My IBC only found out last week, and so he's been forced to implement this. Reply
Gaby
I have never been allowed to take a highlighter into any exam I took. What do you need them for during an exam? I always have a pencil and an eraser, but I don't see too much use in a highlighter. Of course, underlining something in a text is useful, but you can always do it in pen. timtamboy63
I use them pretty extensively in exams. For maths/physics/chemistry/econs papers, I'd highlight the important parts of the question to make sure I answered them, but they're way more useful in English P1 exam, where I use them to annotate the text. Sandwich
I've also never used one in an exam, but perhaps take in a yellow colouring pencil? You can colour over text with that. I sometimes use one to go through my notes when my highlighter runs out... takes a few moments longer but actually looks pretty similar Reply
timtamboy63
Not a bad idea actually I was planning to draw boxes with coloured pens. Reply
Award Winning Boss
I've never been allowed to take them into exams so I don't really see any suprise there. I don't see how they'd be helpful at all anyway. It's usually because they scan stuff so.the colour will end up being useless anyway Reply

thewingedgiraffe
They weren't allowed at the ACT this morning. My dad says the reason they don't allow mechanical pencils for the ACT is that some pencils can have a compartment where a sheet of notes is rolled up or something. Perhaps there are highlighters like that too or something. Reply
Peanut Butter Jelly
aren't all exams to be written in pen, also? Reply

rhaldud
For all of my IB classes, the teachers actually ENCOURAGE us to bring highlighters. We do exercises on how to use them most effectively and I used it during my French exam last year (I'm anticipated IB). oOOh no... Do you know the reason why? timtamboy63
Same here, we're encouraged to use them. I have no idea why, probably just the IB and another one of their stupid regulations. Reply
