Michael Jones
Hey, I was wondering if someone can help me to pick out a World Lit essay topic?I was thinking of choosing to do it on Chronicle of a Death Foretold by Garcia Marquez, and using the question, "What cultural aspects of the Colombian town affect the course of events leading up to the murder?"What do you guys think? Is it appropriate? Too narrow? Too broad? Thanks. Edited April 27, 2012 by Michael Jones Reply
Summer Glau
I think it's too broad. Focus on one (at most two) specific cultural aspect(s) instead, and focus it on plot rather than the course of the events in geenral. Reply
Tony Stark
Focusing on cultural aspects is risky, because you have to bear in mind that you can only treat cultural aspects as per their literary affect. Simply describing how they affected the plot isn't likely to let you score well in A Lit. Reply
Michael Jones
Are there any tips or criteria for choosing a topic, because I can't seem to find it anywhere? I wasn't even aware we were only meant to focus on literary effects until the last comment. Reply
Tony Stark
Not only, but rather primarily. The literary aspects should be the key feature, with all other elements being related back to them. Reply
