Critical Response- written task Help!

Recommended Posts

As part of the new course, there is a written task for the HL students:

It is a critical response, answering one of 6 questions:

Eg. Which social groups are marginalized, excluded or silenced within the text?

A text we studied that i would like to analyse is Heart of Darkness, since the natives are excluded.

I just don't know how to structure the essay, never done one before.

Isn't there any model answer ? or similar structure essay available?

Well I didn't do this sort of thing, but you can just use some common sense to come up with an essay plan to be honest. Just answer the question.

Which social groups are marginalized, excluded or silenced within the text?

Introduction with the social groups marginalized, excluded or silenced within the text.

Example 1 of social groups marginalized, excluded or silenced within the text.

Example 2 of social groups marginalized, excluded or silenced within the text.

Example 3 of social groups marginalized, excluded or silenced within the text.

Example 4 of social groups marginalized, excluded or silenced within the text.

Example 5 of social groups marginalized, excluded or silenced within the text.

Example X--> infinity of social groups marginalized, excluded or silenced within the text.

Conclusion reviewing social groups marginalized, excluded or silenced within the text.

There's no set structure for any of these essays, it's all about changing your structure to answer the question in the best possible way. Fit your essay to match your examples and the points you're going to make, consider comparison and contrast etc. Just use your common sense to come up with what allows you to make the best points for your text and answer the question to your best ability. You don't need somebody to tell you what to do, you can easily come up with something for yourself which is much more tailored to your own knowledge, text and question.
