English A HL IOP Like Water For Chocolate

Recommended Posts

Hi there i have my IOP for Englsih HL A Lit soon and i have decided to do it on the book Like Water for Chocolate. I decided to talk about the sexual tension in the book,

  • who do the sexual acts happen between
  • who don’t they happen between
  • there are sexual acts just talked about like the affair but we never see them happen
  • they just talk about sex but it doesn’t happen
  • how food is an extension of the sex
  • it either starts it or ends it

But i need help in:

What is the ending thematic point of it?

Thankyou so much!

But then would i just be talking about the connection food has to the sexual acts and how both of those help develop the characters? I'm stressing out

Well...yes. That's exactly what you'd be doing.

Why are you stressing?

Because i've never done an IOP before and we don't get another chance and its 15% of my final IB grade

'

So practice in your bedroom or in a classroom with different audiences. Plan the entire thing out. When I did the IOP, we had to expect a few questions from the audience, then the teacher at the end. I planted 3 questions with my friends who were in my English class and then made sure there was just enough time for two questions from the teacher. Have everything down pat and you won't need to stress.

Have a few friends watch your IOP a day or two before and get their feedback on how to improve/be more engaging/etc.

Best of luck!

free/open sexuality as a pathsway/expression of freedom? linking it to suppression and how even though Tita is being suppressed by the patriarch society, she could let the repression out through food and you-know-what?
