That depends on what your topic is. But generally, comparing works by the same author is usually fine to do. You can use that to perhaps explore a theme, common element, etc. across a wide variety of that author's works.

There's nothing wrong with doing that as long as the investigation is over an undisputed feature of commonality between the works, such as, author's style of writing in this case, for example.
