Kaja
Hello!I was wondering, since Computer Science for generations of May 2014 and further was moved from group 5 to group 4 subjects, does it require an experiment to be done (as in Physics, Biology and Chemistry), or a regular research is good enough? I was thinking about comparing different algorithms or concepts. Reply
Chris Schmitz
Hey,no, you don't need to do an experiment. In fact, the IB suggests your idea in its CS EE overview:'An extended essay in computer science provides students with an opportunity to investigate a particular aspect ofcomputing and its implications for society and the world. Within this context, they can research the latestdevelopments and future possibilities in a subject that changes with increasing speed and is continually breakingnew barriers. There are many possible areas to be explored, each with a wealth of topics: advances in hardware andsoftware development, comparison of the efficiency of algorithms designed to speed up data transmission or toencrypt data, network systems, computer control systems and so on.' Hope that helped! 1 Reply
