IOP Topic help

Recommended Posts

We can't find a topic for you (this is your job and part of the assessment), but we can help you decide on something appropriate.

Begin by listing a few aspects of the Kite Runner that caught your attention or intrigued you.

When you do this, think literary..i.e. in terms of HOW the story is told, rather than in terms of the "reality" of the story. Someone is doing a lot of work to make you see and feel things from another time and place. That is the nature of story -- it is representation, not a direct line to reality. So, how are things presented? That includes presentation of characters (characterization), imagery, recurring ideas (motif or theme).

Come back with some ideas and we can help you more.

In order to do a really good IOP you need to go over the book a couple of times, or at least read it once and then go over the chapter summaries on SparkNotes. After the second reading, see what struck you the most about the book (in a good or a bad way). Then write it down (make a concept) and do the presentation. Your best shot at acing the IOP is talking about an aspect of the book that you found intriguing - that will make you present your idea in the most creative and most persuasive way possible. Have fun!
