I'm just starting my second year of the IBDP, and I was wondering, is HL Chemistry really necessary to apply to the US and Canada for Mechanical Engineering?(I'm only asking because I'm not doing too well in HL Chemistry) If I was to switch to SL Chemistry, would it seriously jeopardise my chances? Please advise

It is not required for the US, and not required in Canada either. SL is fine for mechanical engineering here, as most schools have only the requirement that you've taken chemistry at some level at some point in high school, and the discipline is not chemistry-intensive.
