Caelan Ho
I need help!, When should society allow personal knowledge claims to change shared knowledge? This is due this Thursday night! Reply
Sandwich
Well it's sort-of your essay so nobody is going to write it for you here. Why don't you tell us what you've come up with so far and what you're actually stuck on? Reply
Caelan Ho
Personal knowledge is anything that an individual knows from experience or ideas; it's often subjective. Shared knowledge is any information passed on between individuals. From my personal opinion, personal knowledge claims should only be changed to shared knowledge, when a person is in group discussions. This can be at school or maybe in a meeting at work. Personal knowledge is knowledge through intuition and instincts. Therefore, when we come across something that we have personally experienced and introduce it to the group, it then becomes shared knowledge. Some examples of when personal knowledge claims become shared knowledge is when, individual research can help with findings in natural sciences. An example would be Paul Dirac’s personal research that led to his discovery of the equation for the electron. Paul Dirac’s work had to be validated in the world of natural sciences before it was accepted as knowledge by the scientific community.(Langston, 2014) Another example can be individual artists as they can help out with the development of a genre. This can be related to Steve Reich’s accidental discovery of the effect of two out of phase violin recordings that has led him to use this technique in his creation of minimal music. This technique is now used in many different musical genres. (Langston, 2014)Personal knowledge is anything that an individual knows from experience or ideas; it's often subjective. Badalyan
When the personal knowledge claim is shared and is agreed on within society, then it can bring new paradigms and and changes into the shared knowledge. I don´t get your TOK teacher, what does he mean by "when should it be allowed" ? - Always, when the personal knowledge clam reveals new knowledge, which can fundamentally change the imagination regarding a specific matter. Bla bla bla. Theres nothing to talk about really, however you must be referring to the ways of knowing and areas of knowledge. TOK advice: just bull**** your way through, using posh words and a bit of logic, referring to the WOKs, AOKs, and knowledge. Good luck;) 1 Reply
