Leo__
Okayy so I have the oppurtunity to take chemistry at HL or english at HL. I either wanna do something in the biology or business field in the future. So I was wondering if its a problem if i take chemistry at SL? I think English HL will help me in my extended essay, tok essay and sat1 stuff as well. So what do you think i should do? Is two sciences at HL too much? KSurvior
I don't know about SL english because that is not an option at my school, but the gap between HL and SL chemistry is really big. I know people who have done biology in university and had taken SL chemistry but I take HL chemistry and I strongly recommend it...there is a lot you miss when you don't take HL chem. However, you gotta make sure your marks dont suffer because HL chemistry can be hard due to its workload Reply
Thrashmaster
Take English HL (I assume you're talking about it as Language A). It is essentially mandatory in lots of colleges because writing is important no matter what field you go into. If you're already taking Bio HL, take chem SL and get your English HL. That will cover your bases, so to speak. Reply
by.andrew
I agree with the fact that the gap between Chemistry HL and SL is much larger than English HL and SL. If you are going into the biological sciences, Chemistry HL will be extremely relevant to what you are studying. English HL is good too; it's just that SL covers similar things and reads less books. Also I have a bias towards Chemistry HL over English HL because I found the former more rewarding and more fun 1 Reply
veregudmen
I currently take both at HL. And actually plan to major in both in college. It feels bizarre taking sides, but given that you're interested in a biological field I'd recommend Chemistry HL. It's a lot more work than most other subjects but it's really enjoyable and it makes more sense than Chem SL; the HL topics make everything much more coherent and complete. English HL is also really fun and quite easy actually (unless you aren't a native speaker) but given that you're interested in biology it will not be as useful as Chemistry. That being said you could actually take both at HL, though that wouldn't be advisable unless you really find all four HLs relevant and interesting.
