Lit HL Text choices

Out of curiosity, just to see the range of possible text choices, could you post your prescribed text choices for Paper 2 / Lit in Translation / IOC / IOP (as many as you can remember) and perhaps give a commentary on how feasible these are in your opinion?

Thanks a lot!

Well, I take Eng Language & Literature and Serbian Literature, but I can write you a combination of works for L&L and works in translation for Serbian, it may still be of some help :)

For IOC we have The Great Gatsby (Fitzgerald), A Midsummer Night's Dream (Shakespeare) and 1984 (Orwell).

Okaay. From here, I'm absolutely in love with Gatsby, and really hope I get it on my exam. 1984 would also do the trick, but I find Shakespeare kinda hard, mostly because all we did was reading the "translated" version, in modern English, whereas on the exam we get the real deal with original language.

For Paper 2, we get A Streetcar Named Desire (Williams), The Kite Runner (Hosseini)  and The Reader (Schlink).

From here, I like The Reader the most, and I think it gives you the most to talk about. Actually, all of them are IMO quite good, but I still need to do some comparisons and pull out the common themes. :P

As works in translation for Serbian, we have Waiting for Godot (Beckett), The Stranger (Camus) and Metamorphosis (Kafka).
That's right, existentialism all the way, pretty interesting once you get the hang of it, but still not my favourite cup of tea. I liked The Stranger and Metamorphosis, but Waiting for Godot is a bit too much for me.

Hope this helped! :)
