conums
Is this a good knowledge issue?: To what extent can fiction have a positive impact on individuals and society? Reply
Sandwich
Well it's not really an issue relating to knowledge, so I would say no Reply
conums
Well it's not really an issue relating to knowledge, so I would say no I see your point... How about this: To what extent can narrative fiction influence our perception of social issues? Reply
Sandwich
As a little tip, any topic beginning with "to what extent" is usually not going to continue with a knowledge issue! Knowledge issue = how we obtain and use knowledge, with reference to the 4 ways of knowing. You want to know HOW we know things, or WHY we know things - and how we use that knowledge to come to our conclusions, and what the pros and cons are in terms of acquiring and using knowledge in this way. That's the whole point that TOK is trying to address. I hope that helps! You can certainly ask where we obtain our knowledge in terms of how we acquire our perceptions of social issues. Finding a real life situation to base it on will help you score marks. Then address the way we acquire these perceptions via the 4 ways of knowing - language (perhaps even narrative fiction can fit in here if you want ), emotion, logic, sense/perception. And just go from there, really. You've just got to approach it from a TOK perspective, not by asking to what extent questions, otherwise you're not scoring all the points with your answer. 2 Reply
