Nlangdon27
So, we're suppose to do an IA over House of the Spirits, a number of poems given to us, and/or Persepolis. I chose to do the parallel between Lady Lazareth and Persepolis suggesting that power is gained through death. My teacher asks what would be the effect of the parallel, but it's weirding me out. Wouldn't it the theme be the effect? Reply
Emmi
The effect is whatever the larger importance of the parallel is. If the parallel is used to advance a theme, then that would be the effect. However, not all literary devices are used just to advance a theme (they can be used for pretty much whatever the author wants to do). If you determine that the parallel is used to explore the theme of power gained through death, just make sure you give plenty examples of how that's done.
