FahaD
Would you have a better chance of entering Harvard Uni. if you had relatives who attended and graduated from the same school?or is it all about the grades? Reply

__inthemaking
I'm pretty sure they prefer legacy (aka children of alumni/donors) students.Legacy Reply
Abu
how does it count? That I don't know, probably some ****ed up sense of thinking that their children are as smart as their parents. Reply
~Lc~
yea it does help, they see that your family has ben there so they think "oh maybe we want him too"everything in this world is biased it's just the smart people tend to hide it better! Vvi
I think having family counts in a lot of countries. In the US, my friend didn't even have to get pass grades to go to his university in Arizona, the offer was unconditional because his father was one of the alumni. Also, how else do you think all the royal family members in England go to prestigious universities like St. Andrews? This isn't to say that you can't get in. Red this http://www.ibsurvival.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=2836 , someone else has posted their thoughts on the way that Harvard selects its applicants. I would say that your chance is slightly higher if you are from an ethnic minority. If you don't get an offer for undergraduate studies, I would suggest going to another college and then applying to Harvard for post-graduate studies. Many people do this, there are less applicants to compete with and you will still have achieved your dream of going to Harvard and be able to tell people that you attended it. IBStuck
Being a legacy will help you , but grades will still matter too, as will all of the rest of the things that you need to get into university. Reply
Forester
legacy + grades = 50% in.legacy + no grades = 0%grades + no legacy = 8% Reply
FahaD
legacy + grades = 50% in.legacy + no grades = 0%grades + no legacy = 8%so simple, did you make that up? what if they graduated with below average grades does that count? Forester
That's a rough guide, don't take it seriously. If they graduate with below average grades, but have lagacy status, and they are a under represented minority and they have climbed Mt Everest, sure they might get in. sraja90
Having family plays a major role depending on the university you are applying to. Im applying to Georgetown University in D.C. and i have family that attended and she told mne it helps out alot. Reply
Vvi
A lot of people here in Jerusalem apply to Georgetown because they provide full scholarships if you study something related to peace and reconciliation there. Reply
