I know that it's supposedly just a very well written lab report, but I have no idea how advanced this experiment needs to be... I really want to investigate the effect of concentration of H+ molecules in the water used to water seeds on the germination of these seeds. However, I this will be quiet easy to do... Trust me, a lot of people do these super mainstream investigations such as the effect of temperature on Vitamin C concentration, or factors that affect a reaction with, say, calcium carbonate for Chemistry. Or effect of light on plant growth for Biology for example. Your independent variable seems good, it is original somewhat, it definitely wouldn't be something that would pop into my head at first through. Go for it!
