Wow, so many people are doing essays in English...I was going to do mine in English as well but I was afraid of "accidentally" plagiarizing..there are so many commentaries on every topic that you have to be extra careful to not repeat other ppl's words. Anyway, I decided to do my EE in biology but I haven't picked a topic yet. Does anyone know if you have to include experimentation in your essay? Can you solely do research? I have to say that this is a really good, rather excellent site and the administrators here are just great.Anyway, yes you do have to include your experimentation, since that is what the extended essay is primarily about. My school's new IB coordinator is horrible...she has no idea about how we do our EEs and our teachers are too lazy to act as our supervisors.. I was finally able to persuade my bio teacher to supervise my essay after practically begging The people on this site are really helpful and the links are useful too, except you have to be a VIP member to view most of them. kc4293 Posted November 25, 2007 Report Share Posted November 25, 2007 As a general tip to people getting started on EE's, even though it's probably fairly obvious, do something you are interested in, not that sounds easy or smart or that you think examiner's will like. I did mine on a topic I was really interested in and I found very fun, and it was still a bit of a pain writing the 4,000 words over the summer... Also, I am hearing from a lot of people that they suggest comparing books for the EE if you are doing it in a language. No one told us that at our school, but somehow pretty much everyone ended up doing that anyway, so it must be easier. By the way, how many people at your schools do math papers? Too simplistic. I can't imagine there will be much you can say. I mean, what can you say? The Ritcher Scale is logarithmic ... it's kind of obvious...unless you're going to go into how they set the scale in the first place along with the damage done etc...but that mihgt go too much into Geog which you don't want to do because you're much better off doing a fieldwork Geog essay than research. another thing, what math will you apply with this title? a math EE often requires actual calculation. She got a C. She's not a C student. At least, not in IB. AFAIK it's a pretty hard topic to study. Especially if you go into all the technical stuff about it that might just sound like a load of waffle to the examiner who may not have any idea aobut cryptography, but could potentially make sense to someone with specialised knowledged. If you do you have to make it simple enough so that the examiner with no special knowledge in cryptography would be able to follow what you're saying. I'm not saying to not do it, but it's a hard topic. I've always wanted to do mine in History. Unfortunately, I will not choose History for IB, because as a whole, I think Economics would be a better choice for me. You can do it in History even if you don't do history. I didn't set out to do a topic I disliked. Initially I wanted to do political geography, but then I was told that I couldn't. So I looked and found other interesting topics and they weren't good enough so I had to settle for the boring physical geographical title, looking at the water quality of a river. argh! That's my basic question but it basically goes in depth, talking about four journalists and how their articles helped influence the Theodore Roosevelt administration into passing laws that essentially defined the Progressive Era. ezex Posted January 7, 2008 Report Share Posted January 7, 2008 I really like to talk about religion, so I was centering mine around the actions of the church against any type of scientifical advancment in Galileo Galilei's era, around the Dark Ages, were his works were all banned from the public because he was going against the geocentric model, earth at the middle of the universe, which the church believed in with all its power, and if in fact this new heliocentric model was real, then the church would be seen as teaching wrong ideas, therefore they had Galileo jailed in house arrest till his death. Some one is explaining the math behind the chaos theory. I think it has a lot of physical and practical applications of math. Maybe you could take a look at it. Hope it helps...
