Rakhat
Has there ever been a case of changing IB subject after one semester? Have anyone seen such students? Reply
Sucharita
Yeah there have. It's been harder to catch up for those though. If you're good at the subject and have some background knowledge on it you're alright, but if you're completely new to it you're going to have to work really hard to catch up Reply
thecsstudent
I've seen people in my school changing a subject at the end of their first year... Terrible idea though in my opinion I don't see the point. Why would it take someone so long to realize they don't like a subject Reply
potatokim
Yep. In my school there have been quite a few changing their subjects, at the end of year 1 (that is, half way through the course). The culprit is Maths HL; too many underestimated its challenges. (A lot dropped it in the first 2 weeks though.) Edited January 9, 2016 by potatokim Reply
f0xes
Yeah, I know quite a few people who changed their subjects at the end of last term! One of my friends actually changed 3 of her subjects, although one was Maths SL to Maths Studies. Reply
kevG
Depends on the type of Subject tbhI switched from Math HL to SL in my second year and took HL Geography. I changed right when the Geography class was moving onto the HL topic. Reply
Andrew Noh
I have a friend in the year above who switched into History HL after the first semester of her IB Year 1. She had a TON of catching up to do and often spent lunches in the history classroom working with the teacher. It's definitely possible, just not ideal. Avoid it if you can, but if you must, the end of this semester is probably the very last opportunity for you to switch. Reply
merging
Yes... I changed 2 courses this November but it's fine really Reply
terribletouw
It's fine if you don't wait too long - I switched from Bio to Politics without too much difficulty after a term (that is, around 8-9 weeks) of school had gone by. It's easier to switch between HL and SL of the same subject than completely changing subjects, obviously (except for say, maths, but who would ever switch from SL to HL maths?) ebu
Honestly, if you want to change a subject don't even hesitate change now. From personal experience, I regretted so much not changing physics to biology. Reply
Psstt
I actually just finished semester 1 with ITGS SL and I think, that it is hard for me to secure a good grade, now I am thinking that I should switch to Business and Management SL, but the teacher has already taught 2 units in the class.... what should I do?
