Tsunemori
Criterion A (Knowledge and Understanding) is consistently a 4/5 whilst B-D are consistently 3/5. Do you have any ideas or advice that could help me in pushing up this mark?Am I right in thinking that I would be better served in focusing on pushing B-D up a point each? I generally write for all of the allotted time and write paragraphs centred around things that have appeared in the work in chronological order. Thank you. ellie
Look at the notes your teacher has made on your tests. Do you have any recurring mistakes? Perhaps your structure is off, subsequently lowering the other scores? Even if your work is covered in red, you probably have mistakes you make on each test. If you have mistakes all over the place, you may be rushing. Do you make a plan before you start writing? Do you use the (PEE/PIE/)PEAL method (Point-Evidence-Analysis-Link to thesis)? If not, maybe you should try that. Five minutes of planning, even ten if you need it, may make your essay shorter, but give you these 2 points on structure and points everywhere else. I'm also a 2016 candidate, so I can't give you the one true answer, but I hope this helps. Practice always helps, too! And you have almost a year to go, you'll improve some more naturally anyway. Good luck! 2 Reply

Good luck! Yeah, I was offered the chance to go over my past attempts last week, but was rushed. I'll check tomorrow and try to note the comments all down! I've been told that I'm getting hard to follow at some points; I typically just try to get all my thoughts down, without getting much time to proofread. I think the rush of explanation I get when grasping the purpose of the poem, that 4/5, makes the other categories suffer. I don't have a plan, no, not to the extent that I would for our other HLs, because I heavily annotate the piece and then work through my explanation from the start to finish. Good point. I may be able to write less by grouping examples by the type of device used... and my Link to thesis may be weaker than the other letters. Yes, I noticed! It has, I've reflected upon the process more, as you can see. Thank you for your kind words and advice! Hope your exams go well. 1 Reply
