Anonymous Student
i want to know if the kinetic energy gained by the boat from the wind is making the boat to travel. I mean, does kinetic energy turns to potential energy and makes boat to travel? Reply
kw0573
For your purposes, the kinetic energy of air molecules (aka wind) converts to kinetic energy of boat.If the boat is steered or burns fuel, then chemical potential energy from your body or from the fuel is also converted to kinetic energy.Examples of potential energy including gravitational potential energy (the energy that binds you to Earth) or electrostatic potential energy (the energy that binds or repels charged particles). Potential energy belongs to the object so if no energy flows in or out of the object but gained kinetic energy, then we often attribute the origin of this energy to potential. In the boat case energy has been added to the system (the boat) 2 Reply
