asoria
Hello, I'm a yr11 student in Colombia. I have to choose my IB subjects in 3 weeks, and I want to study medicine in the US. I'm currently taking my IGCSE's, but i have no idea what subjects to choose for IB. I might be taking: Biology HL, Math SL, English Language and Literature HL,Spanish B HL,Environmental Societies and Systems SL, Chemistry SL But I'm not sure if these are the right subjects for the career I want to take. Sandwich
For the USA, subject choices are less important. You'll need to do a pre-medicine course and then later apply to Medical School. However for pre-medicine I'm pretty sure you have to take quite a few compulsory Chemistry classes so if I were you I would switch Chemistry to HL because it will help you significantly in the long run to have done it. For the rest of the world, Chemistry HL is generally required for medicine in any case. 1 Reply
kw0573
The combo is ok. If your school offers any more difficult courses, such as HL Math, or HL Chemistry, you should definitely try to take those instead for the most competitive schools. The risk is that you might score a lower overall grade but the rewards are also there if you do succeed. Reply
