Best way to study for ESS

Hi guys! Despite it being one of my easier subjects, I tend to struggle to find motivation to actually get down to studying for ESS. I was wondering if you guys had any good ESS specific study tips that helps you understand the material in an efficient way as I seem to always get lost in all the various definitions and whatnot.

Thanks!

I took the ESS exam this past May and got a 7. My main study tool was the Oxford course companion. Two weeks before the papers, I began to carefully read through the companion, taking notes on on the case studies and definitions. In these two weeks and throughout the course in general, I relied a lot on Quizlet and the YouTube channels Dan Dubay and NicheScience. Quizlet helped me a lot with definitions, which always, always show up on the papers. For example, here is a link to a Quizlet for the glossary terms found in the syllabus for the course: https://quizlet.com/_1dr29i. The YouTube videos give you break from constantly reading, but still allow you to absorb some of the material. And, be sure to do past papers! Hope this helps!

Hey @hopefulundertone, I'm currently taking ESS over here in Australia. I am in a similar situation, but also I'm in need of some resources for the course, as my teacher hasn't given us many photocopies. Do you think you could DM me or share some more quizlet sites, or even resources that could be useful. Thanks a lot<3

Of course! These are all of the Quizlets I can find that I used. The last one has over 400 terms. I made it while I was reading the course companion as a way to make sure I was comprehending the material, so I'm sure it's full of spelling and grammar errors.

This website was also helpful throughout the course: http://envirohome.wikispaces.com/A+LIVING+EARTH+MISSION. It goes through a lot of the major components of the course, including info on ESS EEs and IAs.

I also used this website https://yesitsyomoma.wordpress.com/category/environmental-systems/. It's less organized than the wikispaces one, but it still has a good amount of info.

There's also a community on Tumblr called studyblr with many active IB students in it that all have great resources. I just quickly searched 'ib ess' and found this masterpost of resources that looks really helpful: http://strawbaerrybaby.tumblr.com/post/105134156712/for-my-ib-ess-nerds

Leading up to the exam, I also did past papers from 2010 to 2015. I don't have copies of these, but try to search for them or ask your teacher if they have a copy because they were a lifesaver in trying to decide what I needed to focus my studying on.

I hope this helps <3

Hey, Im also taking my ESS exam this May, but the problem with the notes online are for the 2017 exams, the ESS syllabus has changed for 2017 exams. However, I am not sure if this change in syllabus is significant and if I should just use revision notes from the 2016 syllabus rather than reading that long boring textbook we have...

Thanks

Hey!

The syllabus has changed for 2017, however the content is the same, the only difference is that topic numbers, e.g 5.1.1, have changed (for some unkown reason). I have my ESS textbook and it still has all the info you need. Just look at the new ESS guide, it should have all the same content as previous years, with the changed topic numbers and updated for more relevant times within our environment.

So you are saying that, if I use notes created for the 2016 ess exam, I should be fine for the 2017 exam?
