Rey
Hi everyone. The situation is the following: My old math teacher - god bless her soul - has left our school in October and got replaced by this guy who hasn't got a clue what we're doing. He never taught IB, and he does not understand a significant chunk of our curriculum. But, thank god, all we, IB3s, have left is statistics, so we'll probably be able to limp through that with him. However, he really cannot answer any of our questions about the exams we are going to sit in May and what is expected of us on each of the papers... So, I'm just wondering, does anyone know if we are supposed to know how to calculate any of the following things WITHOUT using a GDC: standard deviation, the equation of the regression line and Pearson product? Vioh
Don't take my words for this, as I didn't take maths SL myself. But the IB subject guide seems to suggest that you only need to use your GDC to calculate the things that you mentioned. You're encouraged to read the guide yourself to know more details. Here is the link: http://www.ibsurvival.com/files/file/2388-mathematics-sl-first-examinations-2014/ (look at page 28-32 for statistics). Also, if you know how to use all the formulae in the formula booklet (attached below) and how to use the statistics packages in your GDC, then I believe you're pretty much ready for the exam. Good luck! FormulaBooklet.pdf Reply
Rey
Thanks so much for the reply this is what my book suggested and what I myself assumed, but I wanted to be on the safe side, as statistics is one of the easiest topics in SL and so I wouldn't want to lose any marks on it.
