IB registration first deadline is at 6 months before exams (May 15 for Nov sessions and the previous Nov 15 for May session). Before then the cost for the school is the same. So that means students can change courses and it wouldn't matter financially. However it is up to the student to catch up on missing work should a course change be requested. Another thing is that IB allow diploma student to complete up to 2 SL courses in year 1.
