Group 3 decision

So I'm in my second semester of my preparation year and I now have to decide what subjects I want. I want to study medicine so therefore I have decided to study both chem and bio HL, I still need to decide what group 3 subject I want and at what level. I can pick from history, phsycology and economics all at both SL and HL, which one would you recommend?

It really depends on what you think your interests, strengths, and weaknesses are. To be fair, they're all pretty essay orientated, and the differences are minor in terms of difficulty (I believe, from what I know of my history class). Do you have a particular interest in one? I wouldn't say there's one that I'd recommend over another if you exclude my bias towards history (just because I adore the subject in general).

For medicine, you'd probably want to maximize your marks where possible.  As far as I know, medicine is quite a competitive subject (often has the highest requirements in both Hong Kong and Australia), with some places even requiring the equivalent of a 44-45 in the IB (University of Sydney, Chinese University of Hong Kong).  Thus, it's probably best to choose the Goup 3 subject that you feel you're strongest in, and preferably more interested in (generally goes hand in hand).  For psychology, I can tell you that you're also going to need to do a lot of memorization (although Bio HL will probably exceed that quite a bit).

Speaking from experience and the experiences others at my school.. and hence biased.. and probably gonna get cut down by others:

1. Choose one or the other of your sciences at HL not both. Med. probably needs Bio HL more than Chem HL, but the differential in difficulty between Bio HL and SL is a lot greater than the differential between Chem HL and SL

2. Economics HL is by far the easiest HL for group 3. Remember your graphs, remember your theory. All the papers have a set structure. Remember them and you'll be good. Requires a lot less memorization than the other two, though if you're doing Bio HL, you'll probably get used to it anyway. Saying this, if you want to become Med specialising in psychology or psychiatry, then consider pysch SL or HL. I can't say Ecos is an easy 7, but from the set of three options you have, its probs the easiest.
