crocke1
Hi all! I am planning on taking Computer Science as an undergraduate course for university, my IB subject choices right now are.... HL: Math, Physics, Chemistry/Biology/Psychology SL: English Lang and Lit, Chinese B, Economics. My School does not offer Computer Science by the way. I enjoy chemistry biology and psychology equally but want to know which one will be useful for me in Computer Science. Any advice is appreciated! Thanks! Gaby
None of them has any relevance to computer science, so just go with whatever you will enjoy the most. Provided you meet the entry requirements for the universities you're considering applying to. 1 Reply
Vioh
Like what Gaby said, you don't really need knowledge from those subjects to study in the field of computer science. But you still should check directly against the universities that you want to go to. I know that most universities in Canada require you to have both physics and chemistry to be admitted to their CS programs. Personally, I think taking chemistry or biology would be a bit more useful than psychology, because it's possible that they might get you interested in the field of scientific computing. For example, bioinformatics is about developing new technologies to be applied to the field of biology (like new brain imaging techniques, or some DNA sequencing programs, etc.). I'm currently doing a bachelor in CS, and I'm not very interested in bioinformatics simply because my biology knowledge is pretty limited, and I feel like I've missed out a lot. So if you are absolutely sure that there is no chance you will do scientific computing in the future, or if you are not going to Canadian universities, then choose whatever subject you find easiest (or enjoy the most). 1 Reply
