bb1
Hi everyone, Due to the change in the IB history hl/sl syllabus from 2015-2016 to 2016-2017, what do you predict the new grade boundaries to be? My teacher believes 87-89% will be required for a 7... What did you or your teachers predict them to be?? Let me know Reply
revumol7
My teachers predicted an 13-15 on all your essays will get a 7, so that is also ~87% Reply
sheerioyo
And for the rest of the grade boundaries? Say, for someone aiming at getting a 5-6...? Edited May 8, 2017 by sheerioyo Reply

bb1
Oh really? Maybe the boundaries are just scaring me lol Reply
shellziess
Last year 2% of history students attained a 7, they want to increase it to 10% Reply
bb1
Hmm maybe they'll make the questions easier? I hope they don't ask about anything about Russia... Reply

bb1
I mainly revised WW1, WW2, Weimar, Mao, Hitler Reply
shellziess
Let's just say they will not coz the questions in paper 2 are not subject specific... they are more thematic where you need to choose an event, a leader or whatever it is they ask you... Did you check out the specimen? Reply
bb1
Yeah but they only had one paper 2 attached - The only thing we studied are authoritarian leaders and causes/practices of wars Edited May 8, 2017 by bb1 Reply
shellziess
Well yeah but if you look at the questions they are not subject specific... They do not ask you about WW1 specifically or about Weimar specifically... Also Weimar is a HL topic... Reply
bb1
Are u serious?? Ah whatever has a strong correlation to the rise of hitler so can apply all its weaknesses to that Reply
shellziess
Didn't your teacher tell you that? Also WW1 and WW2 is mainly a HL topic... I mean you can apply it to the topic of wars and ideologies but I am not sure... Ill send you the topics that are covered in SL Reply
shellziess
These are the topics as they will come up in Paper 2, very broad I know but yeah: 1. Society and economy (750–1400) 2. Causes and effects of medieval wars (750–1500) 3. Dynasties and rulers (750–1500) 4. Societies in transition (1400–1700) 5. Early Modern states (1450–1789) 6. Causes and effects of Early Modern wars (1500–1750) 7. Origins, development and impact of industrialization (1750–2005) 8. Independence movements (1800–2000) 9. Evolution and development of democratic states (1848–2000) 10. Authoritarian states (20th century) 11. Causes and effects of 20th-century wars 12. The Cold War: Superpower tensions and rivalries (20th century) Reply
bb1
Yea the only thing SL was taught was topic 10&11. :/ Ah we'll see, good luck to you And P2 is both HL and SL... Edited May 8, 2017 by bb1 Reply
shellziess
Yeah that makes perfect sense, I mean you could include Weimar in Topic 10 very well if you decide to talk about Hitler... I did Topic 10 and 12 at my school but I could potentially answer a Topic 11 question seeing as I take History HL but it is highly unlikely that I will answer a Topic 11 question. Good luck Reply
